yeah they are honestly retarded. Fact is everything is stupid, you need to be working out and developing your body. I had all kinds of issues which stopped about 8 months into a regular routine. I can sit on a shitty wooden chair now with 0 issues. Sitting for so long and in the modern world just causes all kinds of m,uscle imbalances and atrophy, you have to overcompensate, simple as.

Sitting when you're tired is natural, but sitting for extended periods is also bad. The chair in your pic is a meme, the desk however is not. Unless you only wheel the chair in when you want to sit, but that's just tedious.

As other anons have said, the important thing is to move around. Another important thing is to set up a good neutral position for your body. Adjustable desks help with both a lot, but "just stand" isn't good advice.

They've been around for as long as I can remember if not beyond. Friend's family got one for their computer when we were kids. We knew the "correct" way to use it, but we just put our feet on that knee rest and slouched forward.

Adjustable ones aren't. Even if you don't plan on standing all day, adjustable ones give you a lot of extra room and space to work with if you get a big wide one.
>infinite leg space
>can adjust monitors to eye height, never needing a shitty laptop stand
>works well with any kind of chair, from a fucking 1 seat sofa to a single mattress, can fit under some adjustable standing desks
Some of them even sell the stand+surface separately and you can use your own surface if you drill the right holes.

Pretty much this>>105784698 They give you a ton of sitting options that I don't see the point in standing anymore. I can't even go back to traditional desks anymore.

The standing part of it is a meme, but being able to dial in the height for seated work or being able to raise the desk to access the space underneath it is pretty neat.

Yes. The idea that we aren't supposed to sit for 8 hours in a row is a good idea, but standing isn't the solution. We aren't supposed to stand still for 8 hours either, and standing is arguably worse than sitting, because standing caused more blood to flow down into your legs. Prolonged periods of standing are are a major contributing factor to things like varicose veins etc in your legs. Not sure, you could argue that you could constantly move around, hop, and twister your legs etc while you are standing on the standing desk, but most people don't actually do that, and it's probably kinda impractical if you have to actually focus on deep work or have a meeting or something.

If you really care about not sitting for too long, you are probably better of taking tiny breaks to stretch and do a few jumps then you are getting a standing desk. Actually standing still for hours in a row fucking destroys your legs and will give you a full set of old person varicose vein legs before you hit 50. Or maybe even before 40.

you can use one with a drafting chair, that is like a regular chair but taller.
one often not tough advantage of standing desks, the non adjustable ones, is that you get way more drawer/storage space in the same horizontal space, without clustering the space above the desk

They keep saying how standing desks are more natural as if our ancient ancestors spent multiple hours every day just standing in place instead of walking and running. Sitting down on your ass cross legged like a turk is more natural than this.

A decent standing desk can be raised or lowered to switch between standing and sitting mode. Off-and-on standing isn't going to kill your knees in the same way as repeated forced 9-hour shifts will. Off-and-on standing is also much healthier than sitting all day long.

I WFH.

All my colleagues that fell for the standing meme had to take health leave to take care their knees or back. EVERY SINGLE ONE.

You have to either:
Sit, using a nice ergonomic chair (just because it's comfy doesn't mean it's great for your health) and stretch at least once every 4 hours for at least 10 minutes.

Or, put a treadmill in front of the PC so you can slowly walk while using the PC. You can lose some weight while doing so, and it won't destroy your body (since you know, the human body was made with movement in mind, not sitting or standing.

I've got one I like it. Sometimes I keep it high for standing for months on end, sometimes I always sit. If nothing else it's nice being able to quickly adjust to whatever height I need. Do I want to sit in a chair, or on the floor? Do I need ti lower because I've put my digital piano or synths on it? etc.
