Not him but my experience has been positive so far. I've been able to make all my games run either through steam or with lutris.
People are exaggerating when they say everything Just Works™ these days, but most games do. The main exceptions being games that are using kernel-level spyware, and you'll have some outliers with problems like your post.
For games outside of steam there will be some setup required, like making a prefix and setting paths to exe files that would just work automatically on windows (because they're fucking made for windows, duh), but if you're willing to spend like 3 minutes doing that then you should be fine in the majority of cases.
