they try to make an alternative youtube, which only ever attracts people you don't really want: those who've been banned from youtube for one reason or another. if you want to make a successful video sharing website, a better approach would be to make good video content and host it exclusively on your own website, and invite others to do likewise. because you're hosting good content (which you can still advertise on twitter or whatever), people might actually think to visit, check it out, and go "oh, wait, i can upload something too?", ultimately creating an organic video-sharing community independent of youtube.
