>Song submission guidelinesUpload the file somewhere, preferably in a lossless format, and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album.
Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included. Artist names won't be included.
Songs that contain anything against YouTube's policies won't be uploaded on YT, but will still be added to the album.
By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your track.
Generative AI is banned. This includes AI generated stems, samples, and effects. "AI" includes all neural network-based models and not hard-coded automation/procedural generation.

>>105792962cope and seethe, it's practically common sense that solving technical challenges is a large part of music production, otherwise you'd see a lot more pajeets and random people making it big because learning other things like songwriting is mostly free in this internet age (if you think you can just pay someone to teach you how to write hits, i have a bridge to sell you) whereas setting up the technical means of production usually takes considerable expertise in many areas, financial commitments and taking up physical space
>>105792989You say all this knowing that we know that you haven't even started a single song, which makes your post the perfect storm of derangement and retardation.
It's too perfect not to be bait.
One post like this every once in a while could be believable, but you just HAVE to have some fundamental contradiction in every one of your posts, plus all the contradictory excuses when asked for anything that could prove you're for real (even just naming the gear you're always bragging about; all while literally being named after the EQ'd Chinese earbuds you used to obsess over in the >>>/iemg/ thread).
It's just too consistently bait-like to be believable.

I'm representing Anon this evening and he has asked me to tell you in a very long speech, which I cannot share with you presently because of time but I will be glad to share with the press afterwards, that he very regretfully cannot accept this very generous award. And the reasons for this being are the treatment of record producers today by the schizo industry โ excuse me โ and on /g/ in /dmp/ threads, and also with recent happenings at /mu/. I beg at this time that I have not intruded upon this evening and that we will in the future, our hearts and our understandings will meet with love and generosity. Thank you on behalf of Anon.

>>105808042Audacity is an audio editor, not a DAW, so it's not good at *making* any music, at least when compared to an actual DAW.
With that said, if "making rap music" entails downloading an instrumental track and layering a vocal track onto it, and applying basic effects fir mixing and whatnot, then it can be done with Audacity, but any free DAW is most likely going to be better in every way.
>>105808042I started fucking with audio on Audacity in the early 2000s making dirty remixes and such. I would not recommend this, the average user can barely use FL or Ableton. If you don't know what a zero crossing, keep it moving

Hi, I recently bought an FP30x digital piano. Its onboard controls are pretty limited. I'm interested really in just playing around with sound fonts right now, so I'm wondering if you can recommend me a straightforward/accessible software to do that with. I don't care about it being FOSS or anything just ease of use.

this sounds like real music, perhaps a bit overcompressed but it's a matter of taste, masterfully controlled dynamics and analog warmth. a lot of the other recent music releases make you lose faith in humanity especially if you venture into incel genres like EDM.
https://files.catbox.moe/nohdz0.pdf
what reverbs and tape saturation are you guys using? i've taken a liking to fabfilter's pro-r. was thinking of getting something like relab's lexicon emulation, but don't see a need as i like pro-r well enough right now. tape saturation, i'm not so sure
>>105812461>reverbvela/stock(luxeverb)
>tapereelbus/softube tape
>>105810994Reaper as your host DAW and sfz player VST as the plugin that plays the soundfonts.
>>105812461you must be new here, the anons here are the type who think you just need a DAW with stock plugins, maybe some outdated VST synth. songwriting far outweigh production according to them and some of them outright deny that analog warmth is even a thing. they goon to telefon tel aviv, burial, justice, a select few katy perry/lady gaga/backstreet boys songs which have god tier songwriting according to them.
>>105812588TTA shill here, and I posted that Burial and Lady Gaga song too:
I hardly use Ableton anymore other than to record eurorack and analog gear. When I did use a DAW, I liked Valhalla for reverb and delay. Fabfilter is supposed to be pretty good, as well as apulSoft. Besides those, I messed around with a lot of Native Instruments stuff. Iโm sure thereโs still a lot of max4live and Max patches that are great.
Songwriting can be really helpful, but most of the time people just fuck around and experiment and go from there.
>>105812588Immolate Yourself was pretty much all analog and used an older Neotek console. They got kinda sick of all the digital micro editing of their previous albums, and they were VST gods by that point. Listen to the difference in warmth yourself: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eqtd3MzT9Jo
And it was all bounced to tape.
>>105812761Iโm not trying to hide bro lol
>>105812741other anons don't show an interest in analog gear, they get asshurt about it because they think it's overly expensive or difficult to learn. most anons don't even show an interest in the types of analog emulation plugins that professionals use, which would be fine if it's because the plugins don't sound good enough (even those formerly huge EDM producers with billion stream songs struggle to get a million views these days with their shitty laptop productions), but they are even beneath that, they don't hear the advantage over using sterile plugins with no box tone and sloppy dynamics.
>>105812841I mean, I guess? I hear what youโre saying. Not all analog is expensive (the most popular, older synths definitely are though), and yes there are some good emulations out there. All I can really go on is what TTA does now having been on both sides of the equation. He definitely programs custom Max patches, probably uses expensive plugins, but he also has a lunchbox with expensive API 500 series and Shadow Hills stuff. I know I posted the video here before. Basically, I think a combination of both is maybe best and most economical? I work for a music company that is all analog btw. I canโt sequence shit without a module with a digitial chip/firmware.
>>105813002I think artists like Burial and KAVARI are mostly in the box. They do a really good job of generating warmth through tape emulations, samples, and whatever AM/FM + DC offset techniques there are. Example: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4NURTyxY2g4
>>105813076Yeah I get what you mean. Some analog gear is crazy expensive now but a lot of the emulations are honestly close enough, especially in a full mix. Most people I know use a mix of both, maybe a nice outboard compressor or a few modular pieces but the rest is in the box. Personally I need at least some digital stuff just to get anything sequenced. Itโs not really about being purist, just using what actually works.

all me
>>105813251>>105813002Yeah that makes sense. Iโve been leaning more hybrid lately too, just because it feels way more flexible. I still love tweaking hardware and getting hands-on with synths or outboard, but honestly some of these plugins are so good now itโs hard to justify the cost and space unless itโs something really special. Hereโs a good video I found that breaks down a hybrid setup pretty well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv8mdTe4WEM. Plus digital makes recall and automation way easier, especially if youโre moving fast or collaborating. I think it just depends on your workflow and what keeps you creative.
>>105813267https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv8mdTe4WEM Yeah, all you but does piling up gear really change anything? Feels like just chasing sounds that never quite hit right. Maybe itโs just noise at the end of the day, no matter how many modules or plugins you stack. Whatโs the point if nothing really clicks?
>>105813251>Some analog gear is crazy expensive now but a lot of the emulations are honestly close enoughFor sure. I made this on a Behringer Neutron and it sounds pretty fucking good when the arp kicks in: https://voca.ro/102gvrTsiGkN
>>105813296Yeah, the Neutronโs got that analog warmth, sure. But honestly, emulations are close enough that chasing the โperfectโ analog vibe feels kinda pointless sometimes. Itโs all just noise pretending to be alive. That arp kicking in is neat, but is it really adding anything or just covering up the emptiness? If you wanna see what real analog warmth means, if that even matters anymore. Check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Wl8wOKvl94.
https://www.reddit.com/r/synthesizers/comments/7x1v39/analog_warmth_is_it_real_or_just_a_myth/
>>105813292>digital makes recall and automation easierThatโs definitely an understatement. Itโs definitely possible to do this with analog CV recorders and ADSRs and such, but being able to draw it in precisely is one thing that that DAWs excel at. Shit, Abletonโs CV tools and Expert Sleepers have plugins just for this. Never tried Bitwig, but I hear theyโre pretty good at it as well.
>>105813376bitwigs big dick is automation on notes like every daw should have by 2025 but users wont switch for it and corpos dont give a fuck
>>105813324>That arp kicking in is neat, but is it really adding anything or just covering up the emptiness?Well, I think itโs breaking things up pretty good. I donโt know if the Neutron has vactrols or whatever to determine the rise/fall cutoffs, but overall I think itโs pretty good sounding. Somebody better versed in this stuff could probably make it sound better than me.

The catastrophic crash left him clinging to life with minimal chance of survival. He slipped into a coma for over two months as concerned fans around the world prayed for his recovery. Somehow, defying the odds, Tom emerged from the coma. But the extent of his injuries became clear - the crash had left Brier paralyzed from the neck down, robbing him of his ability to play the piano. After waking, Brier faced years of arduous rehabilitation and therapy to regain mobility and independence after the life-changing accident. He spent four years in a nursing home before being transferred to a neurological rehabilitation center for intensive therapy aimed at improving his mobility and speech. Throughout Brierโs painful recovery, Ron OโDell continued providing occasional updates on his condition. Fans followed along hopefully as Tom relearned how to perform basic functions and rebuild strength. But it was clear his performing career was over, cut devastatingly short just as he was breaking through. The accident that nearly took Tomโs life also robbed the world of more of his prodigious talent. Yet his music and legacy would live on.lmao

And even if you could only select one option, is majority really that important?
Besides, when it comes to extensions, I think polls aren't always good idea. Automatically going for a long extension might be slightly annoying for those who don't want to wait but is necessary for those who wouldn't otherwise be able to finish.
A short extension only has the small benefit of not making the aforementioned impatient Anons wait, but has the significant downside of not letting Anons finish their tracks.

The album anon explicitly said multiple choices were allowed but people selected x<2 options on average, making it not too different from first past the post.
>In any case, the two rounds thing would work if you could guarantee that everyone voted in both polls, but on 4chan it's always different people for a variety of reasons (including only finding out about one of them), so you're not really getting "the true will of the people" anywayThat's true.
One possible benefit is it's twice the effort to samefag a winning result if there are two polls running at different times. It's presumably more effort to switch IPs and vote repeatedly than to just go to the link a second time.
>And even if you could only select one option, is majority really that important?Yes, it should go without saying that most people should want the theme. With this poll https://strawpoll.com/XOgOV4rwon3/results no theme even had more than half the participants voting for it. With two rounds, in theory, there would be less conflict because the second round would settle the score. Anons wouldn't be able to say "most people didn't vote for this". What actually happened was I belatedly created a second round between trackers and italodisco and the result was split evenly, but next time i'll just pick a winner instead of trying to find a compromise.
>when it comes to extensions, I think polls aren't always good idea. It's a way to deflect critisism from me lol, plus it's the most efficient way to gauge what anons want to happen. it's much less likely to be samefagged than theme suggestions too, but if the result looks ridiculous i'll veto it.

>One possible benefit is it's twice the effort to samefag a winning result if there are two polls running at different timesYeah that's true, but with the low participation we're having it's not much effort anyway. Oftentimes one or two extra votes can easily be enough to change the result.
>It's a way to deflect critisism from me lolLmao alright fair enough
1/2
>>105834233>it should go without saying that most people should want the themeBut that's not what you get with the two-round system.
With a single multi-choice poll you get a winner that all its voters picked over all the other choices, but with the second-round you either get the same result as the first, or you get the other one, which only won because it got some additional voters that didn't want it in the first round but prefer it over the previous first, so you get a winner that a good portion of its voters didn't really want.
For example in the case of this image
>>105832822 the top pick (3 votes) has a bit more than the second place (2 votes) but not more than everyone else combined (4 votes), so assuming the best case scenario where the same people vote twice and intentionally vote what they want (anything different from this scenario and the poll becomes less meaningful), the second poll can go in two ways:
>the previous top pick wins again (from at least one of the voters of the 3rd and 4th place picking it over the other), making no difference>the previous 2nd place wins (from both the voters of the previous 3rd and 4th choosing it even though it's not what they wanted)So with one poll you get 3 people happy with the winner and 4 people unhappy.
With the two-rounds if the previous first wins again you get 3 people happy, 2 unhappy, and the other two are some combination of unhappy and kinda ok.
If the other one wins, you get 3 people unhappy, 2 happy, and 2 kinda ok.
In short, neither poll gives you what the majority wants, but a single multiple-choice poll tells you which option is wanted by the most people, while the second round thing doesn't, because the difference between it and the first poll is people who don't really want what they're voting for and are only reluctantly making that choice because they prefer it to the previous first place but don't necessarily like it.
Apologies for the verbosity.

>>105836329>>105836339it's no secret that the sounds on a music record have been processed through studio gear. even mixing engineers with a digital workflow like serban ghenea STILL USE A METICULOUSLY PIECED TOGETHER SET OF PLUGINS TO EMULATE THE ANALOG SOUND. and the stuff they work on has already been through gear at the recording and production stage, e.g.
https://gearspace.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/1432393-la-quot-main-pop-guys-quot-tracking-chain-compression.html
you're completely failing at conceptualizing the analog sound, even if you insist on a digital workflow, you're not looking for plugins that capture the sound as accurately ass possibly. it's the year 2025 and this information is freely available on the internet (even through an AI) and you can decide with listening tests which plugins you think are the best but you're not doing that. you're an irredeemable clueless idiot for being directly spoonfed this information and you still don't get it and you have a big ego about your convictions. you're at odds with reality and fooling yourself when you say that your music is good or your music doesn't need this or that.

anons how do I continue. ALso how do I fix the mix?
>>105836329>if most people only select one option then their choice was to only pick one, knowing that they could have picked moreYou're assuming people always vote rationally, or don't vote tactically. As an example let's take a random anon, zack. He wants themes A or B to win but prefers A. If he believes B is winning, he can withhold his vote for that theme to give A a better chance of winning. This also increases the chance of theme C winning and in that case zack will skip the theme altogether.
It seems like anons vote for their favourite option, rather than against options they don't like, as seen by the low ratio of votes:voters, at least in recent polls.
>Oftentimes one or two extra votes can easily be enough to change the result. In those cases samefagging isn't a big deal. What would be worse is a result no other anons voted for.
>>105836339>a single multiple-choice poll tells you which option is wanted by the most peopleIn theory, yes it should, and actually the poll for 90s trance had 6 / 8 participants voting for it and also had a high 20:8 ration, see https://desuarchive.org/g/thread/102630884/#102665748
So in that case your theory held up.
This poll is interesting because it's pretty likely the album cover was samefagged, but the theme was not. a second round would not change the winner which was 90s trance but might have resulted in a different cover for the god album. There were five variations of a similar theme and perhaps anons thought one of them was sure to win so just picked their favourite, only to end with the unexpected result.

The Dunning-Kruger Effect and "Unconscious Incompetence"
This cognitive bias explains that individuals with low ability in a particular area often overestimate their own competence. In music, this can mean:
Amateur creators: A budding musician might think their home recording sounds "pretty good" because they lack the experience and ear training to identify the subtle but significant flaws that a professional engineer or even a well-trained listener would immediately pick up. They haven't yet developed the "discriminatory ability" to distinguish between good and bad production.
Lay listeners: While they might intuitively know a professional song sounds better, they don't understand why. They're often unaware of the depth of technical skill and artistic choices involved in achieving that sound. They might focus on the song itself or the performance, attributing all "quality" to those elements, without realizing how crucial production is to making those elements shine.

>>105864103fuck off man unless you have some actual quality music to show you have no basis to claim that (((the industry))) is rigged against you. like if you weren't delusional and you actually had a despacito or even a fraction of that quality you would get offers non stop from people trying too make a buck off of you. the examples that anons show are like burial untrue which is a relatively unknown artist from nearly 2 decades ago or james hype ferrari which is heavily based on a sample from a massively successful diddy production which used analog gear.
>>105864344keep chasing the analog meme then lil bro, i dont care
>>105864344the other anon said nothing about the industry being rigged against him. You would have to be retarded to think that the guys you consider "professional" wouldn't be able to do the same job if not better (due to having limited uses of a piece of hardware, and not having to bounce/commit due to running out of said hardware) using in the box plugins.
>>105864444he called them industry plants and is overly dismissing of the amount of technical work involved, it's not ITB 99% of the time. you're completely delusional, even serban doesn't make the music shine to its full potential, his vocals are often a bit harsh and the general presentation is a bit flat, and the mastering stage often involves analog gear anyway
>>105796047>Anybody knows how modern techno artists manage to make their drums sound 'out of the speakers'? Where should I start?Give an example.
this guy mixed ed sheeran - shape of you
>>105864413>AI generated 4chan postepic
songs that "succeed" have a push behind them. if you produced and mixed https://vocaroo.com/1eCCgEzZTMgL amazingly it would not succeed because the composition and vibe aren't there. even if it was marketed with tens of millions of kosherbux, it would still go nowhere (unless it became a meme of people doing retarded tiktok dances to it)
>>105864475once you actually have done extensive a/b testing with a variety of monitor sources, you'll realize that analog gear is just a meme and an excuse for musicians to not be productive. people that insist it isn't are making their livings huckstering very expensive shit to those with more money than sense, who have not done extensive a/b testing and made their own minds up.
>>105864556fuck off and die delusional retard, of course the songwriting can't be retarded but it's not rocket science, a lot of people don't care for ed sheeran's songwriting, a song can be more or less cringe it just has to pass basic music theory which even an AI can analyze for you, the production helps legitimize a cringe song, and you're absolutely kidding yourself saying the plugins sound just as good as analog, then are you saying that your songwriting and performance vibes are retarded or you're blaming the lack of marketing, blaming anyone but yourself
ferry and orjan did a new carte blanche remix
https://youtu.be/Vlg5iu4xV34
it's alright
>>105864596you have become hysterical. telling people they need analog to sound "pro" is just cringe and wrong and gay and anons should be tarred and feathered for engaging in such shill retardation.
I''ll contribuite something in a few days maybe
>>105796047modern techno is basically sidechaining
>>105864660you suck so hard like are you a newfag or what? anons have been here for decades and can barely tie their own shoelaces. utterly delusional. it's not even expensive to use analog gear if you're smart but anons aren't smart lmfao. why would you want a shitty digital imitation of a piece of gear when you can have the real thing with real electrons in it.
>Camila Cabello - Havana ft. Young Thugalso mixed by the despacito guy
like anons were telling themselves they could make the next castlevania or whatever the fuck with some mspaint art and a couple of months of coding, see how that turned out
>>105864676crackhead vibes from this post
>>105864742it's common sense bro the soulja boy and avicii era is over, people have gotten better audio and developed better taste, there's plenty of better music to listen to than your generic ableton slop
>>105864755ye, trolling in /dmprod/ is a fun way to blow off steam when not working on a project. keep it up lil tyke!
Chuzo always sounds like J. Jonah Jameson when he argues
