>>105791525>The government knows exactly who and when burglarized someone's house or stole some bike, all these "unsolved" crimes are just a reminder to us cattle that we are powerless. This is the problem.
Big surveillance never actually works out in anybody's favor.
Case in point: NYC subway system.
Install cameras, reduce police presence... you know, they'll be on camera! We'll get em guys, don't worry!
Reality: They almost never get them, or the courts let them free to be repeat offenders.
Also schools for children.
In the 90s they were installing cameras in schools and busses. Supposedly, this should have allowed them to review footage and see what happened during incidents but they still always just suspended both the victims AND the bullies instead of protecting innocent victims with the proof they obviously had.
Today most schools have cameras everywhere yet bullying is rampant, recorded by the students themselves with their phones, posted onto social media yet the schools do nothing to stop it or intervene.
If big surveillance isn't even helping protect kids, what the fuck makes you think it'll help the general public? It very rarely does.
