What do you do to combat over-consumption of your time by cheap entertainment?

I have an idea.

I pay YouTube $100 a month for the ADHD Plan. In exchange, they bill me $5 for each video I watch.

The way I see it, free is a disservice (like a disease). And any cure is worth some money.

After binge-watching everything I could find even remotely interesting for years, I think I'm finally getting over my YouTube addiction. I'll still have it on in the background while doing stuff and have some tech stuff bookmarked, but I no longer feel as brain rotted. Maybe I pushed on through to the other side...

Overindulging distractions is a symptom of your inability to be present. You seek an escape from the discomfort of your present moment. Find comfort in your immediate physical space and entertainment loses its appeal. Similarly though less effective, you can learn to tolerate the discomfort.

I've joined the fight against overconsumption of cheap entertainment on the side of the cheap entertainment. I spend all day doing my best to avoid having to think. My screentime and my awake-time are practically the same thing. At my main PC, I have four monitors constantly providing stimulation, as well as places to put my phone and my tablets if need be. I play easy, repetitive games as well as predatory gachas on mobile, I watch videos and anime nearly all day and mindlessly scroll through content at the same time, focusing on nothing. I can't remember any of the content I have consumed yesterday, and I'm going to do exactly the same thing tomorrow. I am the future.

You deserve to get cucked by YT if you're unable to complete the APK install with ReVanced.
As for Windows , old AdBlock Plus consistently rolls out new anti-ad algorithms, bypassing the famous "You are using uBlock or AdBlock Plus" block pages.
I think there's ReVanced for Windows 10 too.

to clarify, you may say, "why are you watching yt kids" - well, a lot of content creators are retarded and check that box. I found a bunch of Spanish education videos that are introductory, but they're not really geared toward kids so far as I can tell. But, the creator decided it was wise to enable yt kids. and if they do, you can't comment iirc, so you can't be like "yo, re-up on regular yt"

It's profitable to make long videos, apparently. But I don't feel incentivized to click on them unless they're on a topic I'm very interested in. Which is probably for the best. I'm easier tempted by slop if it's 5 minutes long than if it's 2 hours.

The key to getting over any sort of social media addiction is to realize that 99% of content on the internet nowadays is worthless to consume. Much of it does a good job into tricking you into thinking that it's valuable because it may seem educational or keeping you informed with current events, while other content relies on hype or FOMO to get you to watch it, but how much of what you're watching actually gives any applicable information to your real life?

the majority of slop is modern day infomercials. how they managed to trick people into watching all day what is basically QVC channels. it's crazy.
on top of the content itself being thinly veiled shill. the "content creator" gets to insert their own ad reads.
on top of that for 99% of the population who don't block ads they are getting the youtube ad inserts too

100% true but it's also true that we won't spend every waking minute being productive as a human that's just not how we function. But social media is so far off the other extreme end that even when I'm playing a video game it feels more fulfilling than the latest internet slop
>>105807548
>educational videos
That's another trap desu. A while I was watching hours of educational videos on studying or life advice and whatever and that's just another form of procrastination
. It's not enough for YouTube to show you a video of how to fix a pair of jeans, you will now get hours of the top sewing techiques and the latest drama in the sewing community while being nudged into buying expensive sewing gear that everyone recommends.
A video is not just a video, it can't be viewed in isolation, it's always part of the greater ecosystem.

I tried to quit cold turkey many times, never worked out. I've been getting better at it, but very slowly. It's also very easy to just shift your screentime onto the next internet slop swamp once you got out of the previous one

Yeah, same with like masturbation and stuff, but the truth (it's stupid) doesn't help much.

extremely true. A great measure of a video is "are they selling just t-shirts, or is this an affiliate link clickb8 trap?" You show qvc. How apt, it's styled to look like a morning show, for old people who trust tv and the format. But for my gen, I tend to trust honest-talking bros. And gen z is into the cute short videos like "science can't explain how this is possible" ...
