Dunno.
My Gigabyte motherboards have all been fine. I have had an Asus one or two that have been fine.
And by fine I mean zero fucking problems. Not living with a few oddities like it is normal.

I recently had a 10 year old mobo fail, the power supply stopped outputting adequate voltage a few months before after a year or so of the computer failing to post if it'd been unplugged or sat off so that could be related but either way I've been building computers since 2002 and it's the first time I've ever had a major component fail, component brand loyalty besides gpu and cpu is just sportsball bullshit. Those two categories have real competition so there's something to argue about, the rest is just /g/tard shit

that computer had also run in a ~90F room for a while and had thermal cutoff beyond countless times even before that because the main heatsink was fucked and I didn't replace it until it was completely unusable

It's fucking incredible to watch Asus decline into the garbage bin. They used to be at or at least near the top, well liked and often bought. Then they started having huge problem after problem, seemingly without stop. What a dog shit company.

I have had 2 ASRock boards die and 1 SuperMicro board diem Admittedly they were all 5+ years old at the time of death but still. All my other brands still going strong even a 15 year old Asus.
Probably just luck of the draw but who knows.

>All mobo brands are shit nowadays
This. If you are looking for reliability and durability there's nowhere to run, maybe enterprise-tier and server motherboards, otherwise MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS, AsRock, they are all trash. The Taiwanese jews have become too greedy and skimping so much in quality and durability since the start of this decade, that no-name chink brand motherboards are becoming more tempting. At least the chink mobos are pretty cheap, and if you have any problems just throw it in the trash and order a new one.
I only wish the chinks would start making more premium motherboards with higher end features, VRMs and chipsets for higher end CPUs.
It's a fucking shame. Most Gigabyte, MSI and Asus mobos from the 2000s and early 2010s will last forever if you take good care of them. Have a few from that era still chugging along fine

This all sounds hypocritical af coming from me though, since I have just purchased an used Asus ROG Maximus XII Hero from AliExpress (from a reputable vendor specialized in selling used mobos), to replace my dead Gigabyte Z490 Vision G. How fucked am I?

I placed a fan right on top of them as a temporary solution for now. Works fine during normal use and gaming.
The motherboard has screw holes by the vrms so i was planning get a cheap aluminum heatsink from aliexpress and modify it to fit the motherboard.

No. All of them such in one way or another. Forget about brand shaming, it's meaningless. One gigabyte model could be superior to all other mobos in one year. What would be a wrong choice is picking a Chinese board. Those suck and are always the wrong choice.

maybe
Every single one i had was wonky in some way but at the same time it can take a beating, never seen a dead gigabyte in my life, even the one with a 12V socket that looked burnt.
They will however do shit like glitch out on the hardware level and refuse to boot unless unplugged for a few seconds. One wouldn't POST the first time out of the box until I plugged a speaker into the relevant pins to check. Current one has weird thermal issues requiring me to undervolt heavily or it'll lock up until a CMOS clear on a hot day.
As others said, everything made after 2015 is trash regardless of brand. We need another capacitor plague tier incident to whip the industry into shape again, that's what gave us the godtier 2010 round of mobos.
