What you want back is the curiosity and creativity you once had but lost due to endless consumption.

You can get it back but you must stop consuming goy slop.

The underlying functionality is missing. Linux cannot replicate the perfection of classic windows, theming just gives you a hollow imitation.

Chicago95 works pretty well on my Linux Netbook but I had a really hard time installing programs that played well with the theme, and long story short, I broke whatever it is that lets me install programs so I can't just "apt-get" anything anymore. Oh well. Whatever.
The big thing that gets me with Linux is that I have to do a bunch of tweaking and fiddling just to get it to work, where at least Windows tends to work by default and all the tweaking and fiddling is just the minor stuff like getting it to behave the way I want.

Chicago95 and aerothemeplasma are seemingly the only fully complete and up-to-date non-flat themes there really are at the moment. And both of them are just copying Windows instead of doing their own thing.
Other than that there's Nightglow Blue for KDE with the matching DarkIce GTK theme but seemingly no icon theme that not only looks good with it but is actually complete and doesn't have a bunch of missing icons that just fallback to ugly symbolic shit

They already have. Decent XP era hardware that's in working condition is expensive as hell today. You only get it cheap if its broken or so shit that nobody wants it. Your best bet these days is hunting around thrift stores and flea markets who people who don't know what scalping is.

You can run old operating systems on modern hardware. Even the newest CPUs still maintain backwards compatibility going back to the 8088. The only issues are drivers, but most of that can be handled by generic drivers, and the little that can't can be handled by add on cards.

Of course if you just want to do things the easy way, emulation is your best bet. But setting up a real DOS system is a fun project.

Windows NT was incredibly stable. And whilst it is true there were certain actions a program could perform that would cause problems, the solution is to just not do those things. For more context, the windowing system on windows could be disrupted if an application allocated to many gdi objects or hammered certain apis in some specific way, but again as I said just don't do that and its fine.

If it's possible for an application to do something stupid that would unintentionally result in a BSOD, then your kernel fucking sucks.

I never said BSOD. Windows NT rarely crashed that way. But in very specific circumstances the windowing system could become frozen. Back when I was learning programming in the mid 2000s, I vaguely recall causing things to lock up once or twice when messing about with the windows api in incorrect ways.
