what laptop do you think will be the next successor to the great thinkpad? one that can compete with repairability and also be industructable for cheap in the used market

Neither were the old corporate Thinkpads when they were new. If Framework can manage to stay in business you should be able to find used parts for cheap as people upgrade their laptops.

I hope they would make a fucking standard finally. A laptop should be like desktop but smaller. Why cant i buy a laptop motherboard of standard dimensions, with a socket that i can populate with a standard cpu for that socket, cram in standardized ram in it, add a gpu to the standard pci slot (it doesnt have to be the desktop pci, make some abomination but standardize it). Imagine this, every component is standardized. This would change everything.

I would pay a shit ton for a framework that was built like a t61. The only reason I haven't gotten one already is because thin laptops like that never seem to stand up to abuse.

>Why cant i buy a laptop motherboard of standard dimensions, with a socket that i can populate with a standard cpu for that socket

yes, it should be left for buyers to figure out if they are goofing or not

>put in a 55W TDP CPU
>overheats
>it was your own fault

meanvile, 35W TDP CPU would have worked

then there would be two laptop chassis standards as well, namely thin and thick

thick is meant to house a taller CPU cooler thus enabling 55 watts

If framework made any 4:3 laptop I would buy it instantly but not because itโ€™s a framework, solely because itโ€™s 4:3.
Literally anyone if they put out a reasonably built 4:3 machine Iโ€™d buy it regardless of asking price.

thinkpads are NOT "repairable", at least not more than any other equivalent business class laptop.

that said, HP Elitebooks are pretty okay in my experience.

>>105814018
there's xxxtra small ATX sizes and you can just buy an overpowered RasbperryPI (which itself has a lot of standard attachments on top of using standard interfaces like USB and SD) but the all in one nature of a laptop means that stuff is going to be miniaturized and puzzle piece fit to keep stuff small.

but again if you don't care about looking like a fucking nerd you can get a mini-atx or even nuc type computer and a very small display to bolt to it, maybe outright go full ShadowRun LARPer and get a vr headset and gesture keyboard

MNT Reform Next concept is good but it has many issues. CPU is unter tochpad and the heatsink is the bottom case. It will fry your pp, unless you troon out like MNT CEO. No Full size SD slot - only microSD and microSDexpress slots. No 2280 m.2 nvme - only 2240 slot which limits ssd choice. Wifi is over USB 2.0 and supports only single stream 1x1 wifi 5 ac. ix ethernet sounds cool but who actually uses it??

Refom Classic has heatsink inside the case without airflow lol. Some quality issues such as the heatsink being to thick and customers having to fix it by 3d printing spacers between bottom plate and case lol.

Reform Pocket uses a PCB as heatsink and throttles under any load. Lolol

Oh and all mnt laptop have only 4h battery lol

the PC standard started as third party clones of one company's product, so all you have to do is start producing parts compatible with some existing laptop case

It's over. There will never be a Thinkpad Sucessor. Laptops are consumerist trash just like everything else. If you want to DIY, you're going to have to "build your own laptop" that will be completely proprietary to your own specifications. Honestly, you'd be better off learning some soldering, 3D printing, and getting scrap laptop parts and trying to make it work all together.
