Got my brother a pc with a 4060 and he complains about low framerate since we spent so much on a computer. He puts all the graphics to ultra and plays God of war Ragnarok, red dead redemption 2 and spiderman 2.

I tried telling him not to put them on ultra but didn't convince him. Maybe he'd be a happier man if we just invested in a ps5. I always thought pc was the best choice because of it being able to do more and play more games. But I made a mistake.

at the end of the day, aside from the fact that he uses wrong settings he's still getting frame stability and better 1% lows from a dedicated video card as compared to a ps5... PC gaming is the only way to play video games properly, consoles are jokes, especially when you realize that the average TV often adds 100 ms of end-to-end latency to the chain for no good reason as well lol.

Games don't look any better compared to 10 years ago, so I don't blame your brother one bit for expecting his games to actually make use of that fucking 4060. There is no excuse for the game you pictured to run at less than 400FPS on a 4060 at 4K; the amount of compute on that thing is overkill for the PS4 graphics pictured.

Ultra 1440p in ray traced up the ass games is not happening in a billion years on a 4060 8GB.
I doubt you have the CPU to drive it either.

For 1440p a 5070 is minimum. Maybe a 9060XT will be pretty decent too. And you'll still probably need upscaling if you demand everything be Ultra

>What the hell happened?
Graphicsfaggots.
Graphicsfaggots no longer chained to console limitations.
Consoles switched designs and graphicsfaggots like Cerny got involved.
Resolutions increased (a bit).

On some level, it's an intersection of issues. Windows bloat (not actually unique to windows, more of a DE bloat problem) scaling with resolution, less efficient side applications that you have running in parallel with garbage electron & CEF implementations. Higher framerates and console games in the 7th gen were rarely running above 720p with only a few reaching 1080p.
As technology progressed everything just got offloaded onto scaling and here you are, right at the centre of the junction in an age where since 2016-2018 progress on generation GPU leaps has stalled to the point we're in a continual pump 'n' shrink on TDP and Nvidia also refused to scale up VRAM (though not because they were being based but because Jensen wants platinum stitching for his next CES leather jacket).

Welcome to the new world, buddy. Same as the old world.
In 2008, you should have been calling out that 512MB for what it was. FUCKING BLOAT.

may need to explain to him that consoles don't run on "ultra" settings, those are for people with too much money or for future users with future hardware
modern games don't even look much different down to medium so just find the settings which slow things down the most and trim them back until it's running well.
it's really just a matter of choice paralysis. on a console you accept what you get because there's no options to set. i do understand someone wanting to max out a pc game, but that's not equivalent to a console and never has been

and don't get me wrong, i do understand how he thinks. i too spend way too much time tweaking things than actually playing a game.
i don't play games much now, but back when i did, it was the same story. it's hard to admit, but i spent more time enjoying games on a console than i did on my pc even though the pc could run games with much better performance and fidelity, because of what i said, a game on a console is simply what it is and you know you're getting what was intended, but on a pc there's always that nagging feeling that it's not running how it's supposed to be, or could be, even if you're doing 70fps on medium-high vs. a console doing 30fps on medium-low. just the fact there's a path upwards can be paralyzing. your friend may have AD(H)D

To be fair, the 4060 is a straight up scam. Nvidia has been ripping off their customers hard since the RTX line started, first it was the 20 series that couldnโ€™t actually do raytracing, then it was the 30 series they intentionally understocked to inflate prices, then it was the 40 series where they pumped prices and made everything below the 90 series far weaker than they should be, and now we have the 50 series which actually have worse performance than the 40 series somehow.

Will this convince nvidia retards to stop buying e-waste? I doubt it, but it is convincing people to stop buying the latest RTX paperweight, and thatโ€™s going to kill nvidia in the long run.
