Ever since the launch of ChatGPT we have seen a consistent and rapid drop on /g/ users that isn't consistent with the usage of the rest of 4chan.
It's clear that a lot of users don't feel the need to post in these threads anymore as the IT job prospects evaporate and everyone realizes there is no future in IT anymore.
This is how true death looks. Not people complaining about job loss or being smug about it. People just literally disengaging with the topic completely in the first place.
Be honest, as some of the last users of /g/ reading this post right now. Are you also affected by this? Do you write less code nowadays? Less interested in learning new tech stacks and technologies?
It's very clear that the majority of users already feel like there won't be an IT industry left in a couple of years time. How does that fact impact your /g/ usage?
>>105816697 (OP)>It's clear that a lot of users don't feel the need to post in these threads anymore as the IT job prospects evaporate and everyone realizes there is no future in IT anymore.if you think this shithole is related to job market and employment, you are a certified retard
>>105816697 (OP)A good portion would also be the vaxxies dying off. A lot of /g/entlemen here took the clotshot without second considerations.
>>105816711Look at the catalog. Half the generals and threads are about learning some language/stack/framework/toolset those are made redundant by LLM tools as young blood isn't going in IT anymore and oldfags slowly bleed away because they lost interest in essentially learning horse saddle making at the time of car revolutions.

Dog shit moderation, mental health of addicted neets not getting better with time, people growing up and out of this addiction are the main reasons.
Where would new users come from? All the youth is in wall gardens and they wouldn't care about 4chan either way due its reputation.

>>105816714>>105816756>>105816765Certifiably untrue. Look at /v/ videogames for example. They have a consistent userbase over the same time period.
It's specifically /g/ that is dying. /g/ in 2025 is merely 20% of what it used to be in late 2022.
It's just that IT is dying. IT bootcamp programs are closing down due to lack of interest. Universities see an all time low in new entrants. Tech youtubers also see a decline in viewership, even the ones that aren't directly about software.
People are moving away from IT in general seeing it as a dying field.

Iโve started doing martial arts again after a 10 year gap and have been focusing more on my music, both of which I objectively suck at and will never be able to make a career out of, especially at my age
Yes I know itโs cringe to be a 40-year-old white belt, no I donโt care
Meanwhile, every time I open up a code editor outside my 9-5 to heckin upskillerino, I stare at it blankly for half an hour then give up
This did start around the time the tech companies pushed AI, but I donโt think itโs that, because Iโm fine using AI at work

>>105816960Thank you for your post man. Yeah that seems to be it. Me myself while working in IT I also had a lot of hobby projects and some git repos with quite a bit of stars. But after LLMs started to proliferate I just feel like "what's the point". Sadly my other hobbies were art, writing and music all of which have also been hit by AI. I haven't made a single piece of art since Diffusion models came out. I try to write but the amount of times I feel like I could speed things up by feeding it to an LLM is too much for me to bother. Music somehow still feels good so I get where you're coming from.
Thank you for engaging with the thread genuinely instead of assuming bad faith on my part.
>>105816697 (OP)I love how you conflated the demise of this pisshole and "IT" in general for your moronic, nonsensical AI scare thread. They must be running out of people if they had to hire useless garbage like you at the troll sweatshop.

>>105816785This. I literally hate technology now. And I think this is a universal mindset especially among former tech nerds.

>>105816850>>105816860>>105816877The most mortifying thing about these charts is that they really don't articulate how bad things really are; the most visible steady drops in activity already say a lot, but think about how much current activity is literally just fake traffic: anywhere from hundreds to even thousands of posts per DAY on multiple boards - individually - are some variant of artificial engagement:
>AIsloppa generals like DALL-e threads on multiple boards that hit image limit each time>Horrendous samefagging on particular boards, see pic related>Literal bots swarming the whole site that respond to certain keywords, like when /x/ noticed that even before ChatGPT was a thing there was a clear instance of a bot trained on /dbs/ posts that temporarily brigaded a /tg/ thread>Mobilefags/VPNfags in general constantly ban evading>Since shitposters who use the ecker seem to be able to start posting immediately even after hopping to a new IP, that means the ecker service had to validate those IPs on 4chan by waiting the 2 (formerly 15) minutes and making a post somewhere on every board; a non-insignificant amount of 4chan's activity now is probably just ecker IPs validating themselves with bot postsAnd then there's just a whole host of other miscellaneous shit, like currently the Naruto daily storytime threads on /a/ have been dealing with a literal jeet that bought two 4chan Passes and for a couple days literally spammed each thread until image limit. /v/ has a guy who spends nearly 24/7 spamming the catalog with sloppa of Temmie, one of the Undertale devs. Multiple boards have constant repeat threads to farm engagement, /co/ in particular having threads that appear to be bots just digging up old posts/threads from years ago. Even a good chunk of multiple boards are just explicit image dump threads. Realistically all of these boards have lost way more traffic than the charts suggest, which is exceedingly grim.
>>105816794You didn't disprove that imageboards are dying, you just showed that /v/ is not.
It's still not just /g/, and therefore your argument that it's about IT and AI has no basis.
>>105816931>600k of 800k is -20%>100k of 250k is -80%If it's anything, the drops in /g/ is because everything is iphones and apps and zoomers don't know what a filesystem is

What you're describing as "artificial engagement" has been a part of board culture long before you knew how to use internet.
There is no practical difference between, say, Rozen Maiden threads and DALL-e threads in terms of pure engagement with this site.
>>105817567That's a consequence of the tone here though.
>>105817223The samefagging and schizo behavior is /vg/ levels in the /sdg/ /ldg/ threads. Those threads have a dedicated schizo that basically caused another thread to be created. If you go ballistic against shill narratives, you would cut the activity by half, easily.
And that drop in activity would be a 100% improvement. While the activity drop we witness now, is based on actual anons already having left, or simply posting less, and the shilling slowly turning down, leaving noone behind.
As seen on /k/:
>>105819221Activity dropped to not even half of what it had before the shill invasion.
And shills never leave you completely, they make sure to keep a sizable amount behind, to ensure that it can never recover.
The main mistake, is believing that you have to filter out paid shills and bots specifically.
That is a futile endeavour.
There are enough retards amplifying shills for free, because they fell for it.
Instead you have to straight up ban narratives that you know in fact to get shilled by agencies.

>>105819024Whatโs a good /g/ altchan?
I visit 4chan pretty infrequently nowadays. Just realized some years ago that it's not really healthy to engage on daily basis with autistics basement dwellers, bots and trolls. Besides, the content is pretty much the same shit here, year after year and I don't think it's very relevant to my interests at this point of my life. That could be a reason. Millenials growing out of 4chan. I don't think there's too many zoomers here or at least in the same capacity.
Current Captcha makes posting pretty fucking irritating too.
>>105818156This is why the number one most critical thing the Internet needs right now is effective antispam. If you have an idea, roll it out. There is nothing more important.

Glowfags aren't going to change all their social media campaigns because of how one imageboard would ban it. If one narrative is officially shilled with billions of glowfag budget, and we know about it, it shouldn't be allowed here.

Again, this place wasn't for losers and outcasts, that's what it slowly became over time. As an oldfag I remember "virgin" or "autist" being the go-to insults on early 4chan. The people who post here (4chan, not /g/ specifically) have ugly souls; they are drawn to the grotesque and the disgusting. In reality the general thread is anathema to the original idea of 4chan, which was a competitive zero sum game for pole position on page 0, rather than a binary game for existence in the catalog. And if you don't realize that you don't belong here.
>>105821789>In reality the general thread is anathema to the original idea of 4chan, which was a competitive zero sum game for pole position on page 0, rather than a binary game for existence in the catalog.I agree with you here, but the generals are a necessary response to the moderation style the site has adopted. Instead of individual threads competing for pole position, it's generals. It's not that different.
>If your only measure of "quality" is on topic,He didn't say that. Some of them do have actual quality discussion, but you can't have that 24/7. Nowadays I barely make 1 post a week.
I don't even know why it happened. It just sort of did.
I feel like the mods getting trigger happy regarding the coomer threads might have something to do with it.
There was a time you would get better gooning content on /g/ than the actual red boards. It helped produce dopamine and keep engagement up when discussing actual technology in other threads.
But now its basically just ai generals and thats it.
Strangely, ai generals are the threads where coomer images are still posted and they seem to have high engagement still. Coincidence?
>>105821885You posting less is a net gain for the board in all honesty.

AI threads are out of control for two reasons;
1) there are too many given
2) AI is just token prediction.
If everyone understood 2 there wouldn't be a million 1s. But I digress
There is also as on all of 4chan probably a huge probably with white nationalism and racism that is just seen as OK despite global rules to the contrary.
I'm fine leaving if things don't improve.
>>105822311AI can still be useful even if it is just token prediction. But I guess a tech illiterate wouldn't understand that.

>>105822327No it can't.
LLMs will hallucinate when it fails to find a proper resource to copy info from, because that's what token prediciton means. Next token!
This means you have to second guess every result you get from LLMs for accuracy and to confirm they are not hallucinations.
Why use the LLM at all if you have to actually do a search and confirm their info is correct? Why not just do the search first and learn for yourself?
>>105822327I don't care if I'll be missed. You're not on the right side of history.
Quick question, is it faster to ask ChatGPT what 2+2 is, get an answer, then confirm that answer with your calculator, or just use your calcuator and skip the ChatGPT all together?
Now apply that to every ChatGPT request.
>>105822340>Why use the LLM at all if you have to actually do a search and confirm their info is correct? Why not just do the search first and learn for yourself?Because it's faster. Sacrificing quality and accuracy for speed has been the trend of technology adoption since the beginning of time. It's easier to ask an LLM a bunch of questions and double check yourself something you're unsure of than it is to go search up everything.
>>105822366You have to double check everything, first of all.
Second of all, if you're only checking things you're unsure of, why do you ask ChatGPT things you're sure of?
>>105816697 (OP)Less people and the board slows down? Woohoo retard
>>105822378If I forget the syntax or usage of some library I use infrequently, I can ask chatgpt and either it works as well as copy-pasting from stackoverflow in a fraction of the time, or I can tell it is completely wrong, or it's close and my compiler will help me fix it.
It's still better and far faster than trying a few searches in google, opening a few links, reading through them to see if they're actually relevant or not-obsolete, and copy-pasting and then fixing anyway either to meet your needs or because something changed in a library update since the answer was posted.
>>105822407>it works as well as copy-pasting from stackoverflowOK
>or I can tell it is completely wrongOK
>or it's close and my compiler will help me fix it.This would just be "it's wrong" as well, but you worded it nicely, but OK.
I don't get how this method is faster than learning the thing you need to do one time? Because in all three scenarios you end up getting the correct answer elsewhere anyway.
>>105822431It's not learning, it's memorization. I'm not going to waste my time memorizing every single call and every single arguement and every single usage pattern for every single language, library or framework I need to use. If you want to waste your time memorizing the order parameter arguments that you may or may not ever even need, be my guest. I'll just ask the psuedo-search engine when and if I need it.
>>105822459Yes, memorization is part of learning any language. Verb conjugations, adjectives, sentence structure.
So you don't know any languages, you just copy paste from ChatGPT. Got it.

I suppose you can use it, just that you should double-check everything it feeds you--almost no one does this. Gradually this will spread to broader groups as AI becomes more intelligent, more empathetic, more interesting, and generally a better conversationalist. I don't think it will happen quickly, it will be slow, but gradually people will prefer the company of AI. AI therapists, AI girlfriends, AI companions, AI teachers, AI doctors, AI service works, etc.
>>105816697 (OP)4chan in general is dying. There are threads that will stay up on /b/ for more than a day. Not remade, the same thread.
If that doesn't tell you how little traffic the site is getting from actual people, idk what else will.
>>105816714>A good portion would also be the vaxxies dying off.Partially, the other part is covid slowing people down.
But the decline in /lgbt/ might suggest that people that were more open to pharma in their lives might have been more likely to also take a jab and probably already had issues with health from their pharma/drug abuse.
Another part of it are the psyops by clear non-anons, like with OP who thinks this place is reddit, so spaces his post like reddit.
But, even those account forums are in decline. I've seen discords that are simply losing the plot completely nowadays and I've seen people IRL that are in a stupor of some form. The latter is likely trauma from what has transpired over the past few years, but also an attack on their health through pharma by a racket/mob that are clearly fucking with them and killing them or pacifying them through their manufactured pharma and diseases. That racket are also harming themselves, but clearly people within it can't fight it. It's in a systematic hell at this stage.
The last reason is of course hysteria, because trying to convince people that they might be under attack is bordering useless nowadays because people just go into their shell and happy place when you bring up the reality of the situation. In fact, they start attacking you when you do this. It's a reflex coping mechanism.
This is basically universal with all people.
I will say this though, covid and the jab are definitely targeting the brain and people are definitely not nearly as motivated or functional because of that. The media are trying to spin it as an effect of AI use too. Fucking lugenpresse deserve the rope. The disease targets these parts of the brain.
Also, it's kinda weird how Israel is flexing right when people are at their most dysfunctional.
>>105816794Now look at /lgbt/.
You know that "trans genocide" we laugh at? They're not wrong. It's definitely there and it's probably impacting the economy weirdly too. I've noticed media catering to them a lot less, so these industries clearly see the pattern and how it's lowering profitability catering to a dwindling demographic.
Though the CCCP crackdown made that worse too and industries also started catering to Chinese legalities. Trumps own bullshit against lgbt added to this too.

>>105817851>it's got nothing to do with pharma lobbying for more crackdowns on places like 4chan either>nor was the MIC leveraged in this eitherCovid OPSEC crackdowns clearly did the most damage for all of the internet. Not just this place.
Just look at how bad Google is now.
Sometimes I suspect AI either was a part of this OPSEC crackdown that began with covid or was the reason why they started to crackdown before AI got out of control. Hence the censorship protocols.
But I guess when your system knows it's killing it's people, it might want to zip up people's lips. Can't have prisoners in auschwitz talk right? They might revolt.
This is also why they cracked down on bars and venues in my area. That wasn't just money, I found several operations in my state alone that were doing this for the sake of "safety" during peak quarantine.

>>105819482Discord has been in rapid decline lately as people started to doubt other users as potential AI catfish operations.
Which is correct.
But I find it coincidental that the crackdown on encryption and the increasing anti-anonymous rhetoric by my government is a sign of the REAL reason why the internet is dying. The internet became Oz overnight. YOU are the threat now and YOU need transparency, not them (despite them murdering millions with these protocols over the past few years).
Plus cost of living doesn't help. It's hard to get free time posting when the state is committed to a doctrine of overadaptation with the peasants and work. Make things more expensive. Make work harsher and less financially beneficial. Leverage the state and disenfranchise the individual to pacify them and any rhetoric or base to organise against the state.
Long story short, kill every elite. Not a single one lives. Peasant rebellion starts today.

>>105825353Discord went on decline during CoViD.
imho it peaked on 4chan in 2018 or so, when there were generals who had official discord servers.
But for normies, it will have peaked around 2020. And went on decline during most of the lockdown years.
So when normies had lots of free time, being locked in at home, they pivoted to passive consumption like youtube or twitch or tiktok or onlyfans, but not active discussion. Because any active discussion was filled with propaganda and censorship. Twitter banned you for suggesting that vaccinated people can get CoViD. It wasn't any different with WhatsApp or Facebook. Discord went ballistic against anyone who said that lockdowns are stupid.
Everything we experience nowadays, be it the war propaganda or AI slop, is in succession to what they did during CoViD.
It all started with the "pandemic". But there seems to be a collective amnesia. Even the people who are redpilled underplay just how massive the covid censorship was.

>>105826641This is a hilarious perspective. Back in 2011 or so I was exploring software dev as a career, came here out of interest, got slammed with endless assholery about how there would be no jobs and gatekeepers insisting you didn't know how to program unless you were writing expert level C etc etc. Of course there were the OS fanboy flamewars as usual, Linux vs Windows. I promise it hasn't gotten any more toxic, this is just the internet.
I would guess /g/ got a spike in interest during the tech boom and is now dropping since we are in tech winter.
