The price is not bad if you really want a tiny PC. I'd be worried about build quality tho.

well, it is a mini computer. do u NEED a mini computer? because you can achieve same by going for regular atx mobo + apu, and will have flexibility to throw-in more components later.

Looks like they finally got rid of the ill-advinsed magnetic power connector - which many people complained would cut power to the box if you even bumped the table it was on. So thats good.

Single core still matters, in any thing not multithreaded, which is a lot of stuff. ALOT. And they are not bad in multithreaded either, see https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/8840831

So nothing made after 2006? Hell even Windows Vista is multithreaded, same for linux and macos at that time.
Also, at the same price point the Beelink is way faster multithreaded wich is the point.

I wouldn't pay more than $300 for a MiniPC in most cases. The "high end mini pc" concept is a silly meme for poor wannabe gamer kids.

That's not how it works. A lot of things just cannot be parallelized effectively, at least across CPU cores.
That said, I wouldn't recommend a Mac mini anyway. MacOS is extremely unpleasant to use without a hiDPI display.

I'd rather dock a laptop than get one of these mini pcs. Anker thunderbolt dock lets me plugin my work and personal laptops to the same screens+peripherals.
I have my desktop hooked up too when I need power but my laptop is way more power efficient for general browsing.

you'd need either ยตATX or miniITX to come near the mini PC formfactor, which will severly limit your choices in GPU (optional) and PSU and the only desktop APU that comes close to a high end laptop APU like these is the 8700G, a part which on its lonesome retails for โ‚ฌ200 at least. You can maybe DIY an equivalent machine for around the same cost but it won't be cheaper.

So same shit then? Thread dispatcher from the OS allocate process to cores based on load making multi core more efficient than using a single core for all the process.

getting an equivalent chip in a laptop will easily cost you $200 more, and most of the time much more because the best laptop chips have the best intergrated graphics and the best the high end laptop chips will often go into laptops with an intergrated graphics card for which you would have to pay even more.

8745hs is pretty good, what tasks do you plan to do so that it won't be enough? i would find though that 256gb ssd and 16gb ram is too small nowadays. the minimum is 1tb and 32gb (but better 48gb if you think for far more ahead).
and ofc ubuntu/fedora, not windows, too much spyware there, moreover their requirements version to version are just too retarded

>getting an equivalent chip in a laptop will easily cost you $200 more
Well yeah, it comes with built in peripherals and a battery. I'll pay more for useful features.
You can get more performance from a normal desktop than a mini pc. You can also get more functionality in a laptop than a mini pc. Those things are the worst of both worlds and only benefit in really niche usecases like kiosks which the average person has no use for.

I own one and I'm pretty happy with it. The main mistake people make when buying a mini PC is not looking at noise benchmarks. Most people want to place it on top of their desk within arm's length. They get wowed by the paper specs and then are disappointed by the noisy fan that constantly ramps up and down.

About 90% of them don't even have PWM controls in the BIOS. The SER8 is fairly quiet by default but you can make it dead silent with a custom fan profile.

No, they tend to break, just buy m4 mini basic. None of thesE ryzen shits can even compare, just watch vid linked. Multiple 4k vids, editing 4k vid, browsing all at the same time working perfectly fine.

8745hs is roughly equivalent to a 7840hs, 7940hs, and 8845hs. The 12 core 780m is bretty impressive, it will run older games like arma 3 and gta v (no RT) at 1080 60hz.

If you are paying $500, it should include 64gb of LPDDR5 and a 2gb ssd. Otherwise you can get a barebones minisforum 8745 for $320
