What are the best PRACTICAL tvs to get these days. None of that $3000 tv stuff. Something a normal person can afford.

My led visio tv is shitting the bed and the leds have started to really dim in spots and today the right side of the screen just about shut off. Its like 50% dim permanently on that side. I fixed it once when the led panels got loose but im done with it now. Im eyeing an lg b4 oled. $800 open box at best buy. Oled seems the way to go for best picture, but it might het that burn in crap. Leds might not have burn in but theyre not invincible either. Qled sounds like its led but a little better. Idk. Thats why i made a thread.

Just get a fucking Hisense or a TCL and shut the fuck up man, it's not that difficult. You probably don't control the light in your room so make sure it's a bright TV.
OLED is the best, burn in is a meme if you don't constantly watch TV like 8 hours a day.
The fact is TVs are not like your grandpa's wood panelled CRT which can chooch along for 30+ years. You'll probably get a new one in 10 years and it won't be very expensive.

OLED "burn-in," which would more accurately be described as "burn-out," is not an issue unless you're watching the same cable news network all day every day. I got a Sony A80L after shopping around a while last year. The LG B4 is okay, but if you've got $800 and are willing to buy open box I'd keep your eyes open for a better model/deal.

Mini-LED TVs are great. A single LED going out is only a 0.001% failure rate which isn't unheard of and the warranty covers it. I've used this to get free TVs a few times. Most people probably won't notice, they're probably banking on that.

dude just do it like me, first you need a budget maximum you are willing to pay, then look at some store where you are buying TV and chose several ones and then compare them online..

for me cheap Samsung was always shit dont buy those - shit contrast, really bad BLACKS (maybe expensive samsungs are better)
Sony is always OK
LG i have one older one and it is ok too

but today you have TCL and other brands which are good too...

i personally avoid oled, have oled phone and the keyboard is burned in.. fuck oled

See if you can still find a QNED LG that uses an IPS panel. I have a 43" one, it's awesome for what it cost, I think $300. Yes of course it has "IPS blacks" so what, 95% of all movie scenes still look fine in a dark room.

It's not fucking worth it. I had a B series OLED for like 3 weeks before I returned it. The slow CPU just ruins the whole experience, it feels like everything is in slow motion compared to the C line. You don't want to put up with that shit for 10 years, just pay 200-300 more for a C4.
65'' is the perfect bang for your buck right now. Watching movies or shows on 55'' is not half as fun

19" monitors are unbeaten for Wii gameplay.
Giant BLOATMAX 100 inchers BBLED displays are just begging for their cervix to be shattered and destroyed beyond repair when the condom on my Big Black Wiimote breaks free due to rubber degradation from ozone exposure.
I never miss when it comes to Wii bowling, but small targets are better, they look better, they feel better and it takes greater skill to hit that target.

On purely practical terms, you can't go wrong on anything under 19", the smaller the better.

I'm currently on a quest to remove internal bluetooth, wifi and microphones from my LG OLEDs. Any help is welcome. These fuckers literally screenshot your TV and upload it every time you connect to the internet. I know it's easy to say, "Just don't connect to the internet, duh", but, I would like to mitigate any (if possible) spying the best I could with internet enabled. My OLEDs are jailbroken and run Homebrew and I can disable the bluetooth that's enabled 24/7 on LG TVs via Homebrew apps, but, I prefer to just remove the hardware, if possible. Any input, /g/ents?

On my old TCL TV I was watching Survivor on my PC (pirated through a normal media player) and I remember a bar popped up on the TV that asked me if I wanted to watch more episodes of Survivor when it was over. It was clearly looking at my screen trying to identify the content, pretty scary shit honestly, especially since it's hooked up to my PC with personal data.

>I think this is a very important thing that anyone who uses their LG TV as PC monitor should know about. I personally keep my LG C4 off the internet when possible. Just be aware that any sort of sensible or private information you view on your TV can and will be sent to LG servers in one form or another if you do not disable certain features and keep the TV online. Nobody but LG can say for sure just how "anonymized" this data truly is.

Recent independent research and LG’s own documentation confirm that LG smart-TVs do capture small image samples of whatever is on-screen—yes, even an HDMI-connected PC desktop—and transmit those samples for Automatic Content Recognition (ACR).These samples are typically compressed or hashed before leaving the set, but the data still reveals exactly what you are watching or doing and can be linked to your household for ad-targeting.

[Naturally, LG isn't the only manufacturer doing this.]

LG’s September 2022 press release pitches ACR as the backbone of “personalised content and ads” delivered through the Live Plus feature. lg.com
>1. Does LG admit to “screenshots”?
LG’s own Live Plus FAQ says it “recognises only broadcast and cable programming” and claims “no personal photos or videos are ever recognised.” lg.com That statement is contradicted by the university-led 2024 study showing HDMI content was fingerprinted exactly the same way.

So define exactly what you are willing to spend, and get as good a TV as you can within the budget. Treat your limit as a hard limit; don't let anyone talk you into spending just a little bit more than it.
And remember this: there's always assholes about who are happy to charge you more than a thing is worth.

Im aiming at $1000.

I just went to costo and best buy. Took some pics of things that might work.

Two dudes at best buy recommend me things in my budget. The guy who seemed to know what he was talking about recommended a Hisense 65" Class U8. Other guy recommended the
LG 65" Class 85A Series QNED. Both $1000

Difference being the Hisense is newer and has google assistant stuff, and the lg is a year old but has better color accuracy. According to that second guy

Theres so many damn tvs at the store. Its properly overwhelming. Qled and mini led and qned and mini led lcd and oled. Im gonna look up reviews i guess. I hate shopping.

I have a TCL 55in 4k in my livingroom, you can get them for under $200 at walmart. I mounted a soundbar under it with zipties

Roku lets you use any app EXCEPT you can only use one 'experimental' imported app (as in you give it the app files) in developer mode. But, its connected with my emby server and i can watch all the stuff i download. Users can use other aps for free movies and tv series or news but desu, despite having guests none of them actually use any of my roku TVs and i dont actually use the apps except Playlet (experimental imported ad-free Youtube), emby and occasionally the twitch plugin

>but it might het that burn in crap
It's a serious issue / showstopper for computer monitors but it might not be for a TV. I mean TVs burn in all the same but due to the different use case it might take a lot longer. Monitors can be expected to be on for 8h+ at a time with lots of static UI elements, but TVs in general aren't used to display that much static stuff and if you use it to watch a few shows or play a couple of hours of games per day then it will probably last you for a pretty long time before you get any visible image issues.

Just look at RTings...They have the exact stats of every TV they review. The best bang for the buck is either Hisense or TCL. I really like the Android TVs over the proprietary shit. If not buying these "value" TVs I would just go straight to Sony. The biggest issues with mini-LED TVs is screen uniformity and Sony calibrates each TV using a camera to fix uniformity in software. But Sony costs over twice as much as these TVs....

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u8qg

That's probably the best $1000 TV you're going to get, if you trust Hisense quality control.

Get the LG C4, MiniLED isn't there yet. I got a recentish Samsung and the glow is real even though the blacks look good, although I can't really complain as it was cheap as fuck and 90% of the content I watch looks decent enough. 144hz as well.
Still, if you're gonna blow more than a couple hundred you might as well get the best TV you can and keep it for half a decade, maybe more if it lasts till then. Don't believe in the burn-in meme

Are there any good guides out there for completely replacing the firmware and software and putting on a fresh install of linux or at the very least a clean android rom? Find the oldest brand new still in the box high end model you can find. One, two or even three years old. The big brands like Samsung and LG sell hot shit covered garbage at the low end. Only their high ends are good. Had both a low end Samsung and LG die prematurely. If you are going to go low end get a low end brand that makes their living at the low end. Something like TCL. They will go out of business if their low ends suck because they are low end. Unlike high end brands that sell low end crap with their high end brand name on it.

Personally I bought a high end Sony brand new that was the previous years model at the time and got a deal and it's been great.

Also never buy floor model TV's because hat's retarded. They will die on you because they've been running non stop on the showroom floor.
