Gen X and Y are just old enough and have had to use computers in the work place to at least get what they need to do most of the time. The oldest gen z is about 28 like the anon above, so plenty of them are still pretty young. Not only that, you're only experience the gen zers that do need help. You have no idea how many of them don't need help.

It's not because you grew up with them(are we pretending zoomers didn't have computers around them too just because they have ipads too?), it's because you had an interest in them. Many of the ones I grew up with still have basic knowledge and don't know you can't move files around via crtl + x.
I also grew up around a lot of people who likes sports, and I still can't tell what the fuck they're talking about because I have no interest in sports. Sure you could argue that knowing sports isn't crucial life knowledge, but most people don't need to know much more than how to turn the TV on either. It's all just entertainment to them. They don't interact enough with computers to care.

I heard a theory online that computer proficiency was killed in schools by chromebooks and I-pads. Since everything on them is so closed off and relies on the cloud, you never learn how to interact with file structures. I am a zoomer and can confirm those things were used, as well as their flaws, and the theory makes sense though I’m not 100% sure about it.
