Occasionally, I'll find a solution to a bug that's been nagging us in the backlog for ages but it ends up being so absolutely hideous that I decide it is better to embrace the existing limitations than to ruin the pretty code.
Sometimes, I knowingly allow edge cases to slip in even though I am aware of them when implementing the functionality, for similar reasons to the above.

Like seriously what shitbag Best Buy employee sold my grandparents this piece of shit?). So here's what I did. I just started looking up "how to mod Minecraft" and similar on Google, wound up on some weird websites and on weird scam YouTube videos. Ended up downloading a bunch of jar files for mods and other random crap, didn't really know how to install it so I just double clicked on it all and hoped it worked like OptiFine. It didn't and Explorer wouldn't open anymore. Computer got completely infected with every kind of virus you'd expect to see on a kid's laptop minus the desktop strippers, my grandparents were stumped when I showed them the state of it. My grandmother treats every electronic like a car, so she had me turn it off, let it sit for like ten seconds, turn it on, try to log in, only for nothing to show up because one of the viruses was blocking Explorer for launching. Did that about three times. Failed every time. Got my grandfather involved but he's a Mac guy, got us much further but still couldn't help much even if he was able to use Google for help. Turned out by the grace of God that this machine had system restore set up and had a restore point I could use. It just came from the factory with this enabled. We eventually found this after hours and the machine was fine in the end. I had an irrational fear of MediaFire and adf.ly for YEARS after this and still get kind of a weird feeling whenever I download something from MediaFire even a decade later.

Turns out "integer character constants" like 'X', which are "plain" char promoted to int that are part of the basic character sets (both source & execution) will always be nonnegative by C standard fiat.
