I was on Linux for the longest time.

I switched back to Windows. I feel like a better user having learnt how powerful the terminal is and CLI programs. The layout also makes a lot more sense even though it's a little bit different than the UNIX file hierarchy.

I'm just tired of trying to fix small issues on Linux desktop, on both stable and rolling distros.

I want to work in cyber security, or at least get better at it. I feel like having a VPS that's just reverse proxied to my home is a bad idea without having more security in place. I just set up SSO and groups for accessing my service a few days ago, so putting up VLANs and SSL for my LAN services is just part of the list I guess

Occasionally, I'll find a solution to a bug that's been nagging us in the backlog for ages but it ends up being so absolutely hideous that I decide it is better to embrace the existing limitations than to ruin the pretty code.
Sometimes, I knowingly allow edge cases to slip in even though I am aware of them when implementing the functionality, for similar reasons to the above.

I use a free VPN service (RiseupVPN with the OpenVPN converter script). Everyone says you shouldn't trust a free VPN service, but it's free and they don't have my payment information. I honestly trust them more than the other payed ones just because they seem more grassroots and not as purposefully pushed down everyone throats like Mullvad.

Yesterweek I used httrack to download a website. Too bad I was too lazy to type out /home/user/documents/websites/ and instead wrote ~/documents/websites, which created a folder called ~ in my current working directory. Then I proceeded to rm -rf ~ because I wanted to get rid of that folder. I guess I learned to make backups in time the hard way.

When I was eight, I wanted to mod Minecraft so bad. Even though my laptop ran Minecraft 1.8 at like 1 frame per minute since it was a hunk of shit with 4GB of RAM and a dual-core Celeron (that cost $500! Like seriously what shitbag Best Buy employee sold my grandparents this piece of shit?). So here's what I did. I just started looking up "how to mod Minecraft" and similar on Google, wound up on some weird websites and on weird scam YouTube videos. Ended up downloading a bunch of jar files for mods and other random crap, didn't really know how to install it so I just double clicked on it all and hoped it worked like OptiFine. It didn't and Explorer wouldn't open anymore. Computer got completely infected with every kind of virus you'd expect to see on a kid's laptop minus the desktop strippers, my grandparents were stumped when I showed them the state of it. My grandmother treats every electronic like a car, so she had me turn it off, let it sit for like ten seconds, turn it on, try to log in, only for nothing to show up because one of the viruses was blocking Explorer for launching. Did that about three times. Failed every time. Got my grandfather involved but he's a Mac guy, got us much further but still couldn't help much even if he was able to use Google for help. Turned out by the grace of God that this machine had system restore set up and had a restore point I could use. It just came from the factory with this enabled. We eventually found this after hours and the machine was fine in the end. I had an irrational fear of MediaFire and adf.ly for YEARS after this and still get kind of a weird feeling whenever I download something from MediaFire even a decade later.

I use technology solely to make money and have little interest in it in my personal life. I havenโ€™t done real projects since I was a teenager.
All of my projects (for work, obviously) are AI spaghetti code I edited a bit and I take the credit I get anyway
Iโ€™m switching to a MacBook because I and I canโ€™t take plugging in my laptop while watching a movie with my wife anymore. I have LLM stuff that would run better on different hardware but I donโ€™t give a fuck and would rather pay money at this point.
Everyone thinks Iโ€™m an IT genius but my job is a literal retard containment zone where I am king retard.
I have worked two jobs at once and I left the US years ago. I intend to take as many jobs as possible and to sit and wait for the end. You donโ€™t even need to pay US income taxes on US income if you live abroad (you get 100% of federal withholding back): Iโ€™m a complete leech on the system doing nothing of value.

Lifehack. Go with seeking arrangements. Most are college girls and their net rates are significantly cheaper than pro escorts and the pussy is better.

I was stationed near college station for work and I had a literal 10/10 who would do ANYTHING for $200 / night. Unlimited sexual access per session.

Way cheaper than some BPD Eastern European escort or an actual Texas 5/10 girlfriend.

I ended it after 2 years of living there cause I had to move for work. I can say I have climbed and conquered Eros mountain in this lifetime. I could die tomorrow and know I fucked like a fucking porn star for 2 years of my life.

I used to be the guy they called when the printer ran out of toner.
I have remained undetected for almost 3 years and even recieved bonuses and pay rises since then.
I have become a master of deflection and manipulating others perception of my works importance and complexity.
For a while it was pure hell because I was waiting to get fired but now its just business as usual.
Its gotten to the point that Ive even convinced myself that Im just as good if not better than the ex microsoft devs I work with.

I have buyers remorse. I bought a 9070xt to replace my 3060 12gb. I have so few games that it matters for that I'm going to return it. It just wasn't the mindblow I thought it would be. I can actually play a few games that ran like shit I couldn't play before but I'm not interested in plaging them anyway. I also would like more of a vram upgrade than +4gb and I want cuda. I wanted to stop waiting but I'm just going to wait again until at least the 4070ti super so I get double the vram. The card works fine there just are no games I HAVE to play that my 3060 doesn't already run.

I've been busting my ass on dumb C things. Like, why does array initialization like
uint32_t masks[] = { ['X'] = UINT32_C(0xFF0FF0FF), ...

work if char is permitted to be signed, as 'X' could then evaluate negative and this would be bad... Turns out "integer character constants" like 'X', which are "plain" char promoted to int that are part of the basic character sets (both source & execution) will always be nonnegative by C standard fiat.

Also in 2005, gcc finally admitted __GNUC__ may be set by toolchains other than gcc if they claim to speak a compatible GNU C dialect, and clang claims to be gcc 4.2 and tcc claims to be gcc 3.1. Not sure about icc, but will dig it up tomorrow.

I'm turning into the guy on Pawn Stars that knows everything about railroads or something, forgive me.

I know that windows 10 is the best modern os but I still use arch because I fear on missing out. Every time I am doing something completely obscure like trying to use a vintage library I start panicking that I can't do it. Also I fear that I will, one day end up needing something windows cannot provide me. Also I fear thar my drives will fail on windows as they have in the past. I suppose I like Arch, it's completely isolated I have an offline repo on it with a lot of source files in case I need to rebuild something from scratch. I fear that the future may come faster than the past fades away.

Not as bad, but I did something similar a few months ago but with a 2.0 drive and Mint. It was the only unused flash drive I had lying around at the time and I completely forgot that it was 2.0. It took about an hour to boot into a very laggy live environment and start the install, and the process itself took about 3 hours.
