Outsiders don't have caste, you'd be treated like a pariah in "classical" India (read: 1000 BCE), and probably like every other persian guy in the middle ages (i.e. pretty well, but still not part of the caste system)

You inherit the caste of your father almost all of the time, unless you lived long ago before this thing became ossified and jumped castes.

It's not only a thing in Indian "history", it's a thing today. There were multiple "lower caste" people who became kings and emperors. They became part of the "Kshatriya" class, as did their descendants. Similarly for Brahmins who did not behave like their caste was supposed to. Look up "Shudra brahmin"
