>was always the person who was "good at computers"
>always liked computers
>always wanted to program and use linux and all that cool stuff that i saw online
>finally get my own computer worthy of the name
>try linux
>instead of finding i can do more with my computer, i just find it adds minor frustrations to daily use. most of its conventions feel asinine and when researched, have asinine reasons for existing.
>try programming
>setting up is miserable, there aren't many programs i need to write and most of the ones that exist are achievable by abusing scripting languages. going any lower-level for the same output would be a pointless. the few remaining program-ideas would be large scale undertakings even for an experienced programmer, leaving no beginner/intermediate level programs of any interest and, as such, no engaging use case for learning.
all i have left is a vague interest in computing history, and that's undercut by having nothing in common with everyone else who shares that interest. i should've been an artist. i got meme'd.

Stop relying on necessity and make things YOU WANT TO SEE OR WRITE

Like the other anon said, learn or create for your own reasons not because someone else needs it.

the problem is that the programs i want to write for myself are either trivial or absurdly complicated. there's nothing in the middle to bridge the gap between "stat calculator for an obscure game" and "making my own OS from scratch"

so instead of implmenting the small ones and learning how to tackle the large ones, you came here to bitch like a woman?

use meson or xmake, cmake is annoying and make users rarely go beyond hello_world.c
>there aren't many programs i need to write
then you don't. You can't write a program without a clear purpose since there's nothing to do and tell the computer to do.
>few remaining program-ideas would be large scale undertakings even for an experienced programmer
then find a project that does what you want or just includes it and see how it does that, read the code. One time I needed to implement rubberband selection in my gtk app and I had no idea how so I just pulled up the nautilus source code and read it.

Linux uses plain Makefile, if it works for 15 million loc project, it works for me.

By your logic, so does cmake, meson, and xmake as they all support outputting make.
And no, it does not. Kernel uses a strict subset they call KBuild with its own rules. But if you want to push work done by hundreds of volunteers over decades onto yourself, you do you
