People forget that explosives aren't easily accessible.

The tech has been around for almost a decade anon. If it would happen it would have by now. Virtually every city in the western world have active drone counter measures and the hobby scene has been decimated because of it. Besides if you are able to contruct an explosive to begin with you probably already have other avanues of delivering the payload without a drone.

9/11 was so notable because a massive jet plane hitting a skyscraper is orders of magnitude more impactful than a drone. A single drone might be accessible enough, and rudimentary explosives are incredibly easy to get hold of, but you'd need a massive and well-coordinated swarm of them to cause a comparable amount of damage to 9/11.That isn't accessible at all.
