This. I’m still mad at Microsoft for killing the classic UI with W10, but at least W10 default was a step into the right direction, but W11? Fuck that shit. Oh well, I’m dreading the day we’ll get “upgraded” at work. W10 already feels like I’m constantly fighting my fucking PC, W11 will probably be even worse.

Text was unreadable, it lacked contrast.
WCAG AAA tests require a minimum contrast of 7:1.
Liquid ass in beta 1 couldn't even reach the WCAG AA contrast requirements of 4.5:1.

kek it's funny but I went through all the same iterations for my website.
it's as if they never even did focus groups to figure out the issues, they did do a lot of basic stuff like gradient blurs on top and changing color depending on background.

I liked this. If the end product is just gonna be more slightly transparent white backgrounds with a gaussian it is dead to me and can fuck off. Mobile software is painfully boring today, no one does anything new or exciting, just more flat design and literally every phone looks the same now. Everything is iphone. Look at the original iphone os and now look at every smartphone ever. They are all just iphones with an icon pack, this has not progressed in 15 years, smartphones peaked and are now about as interesting total about as microwaves and toasters. In fact fuck all smartphones, and they're stupid, mobile slot machines you don't even make calls with anymore

The thing about transparency that any UI designer should have learned a long time ago, is that it fucks with usability. Sometimes it can be a neat effect, but it almost always hurts usability.

They managed to have transparent UI that was still easily readable and useable, why is Apple unable to do this?

Steve Jobs already designed the perfect UIwhen he was with NeXT. You should give window maker a try.
The real mistake linux distros made was not adopting gnustep.

That's the exact spot in the video I was talking about. You can really see their shock for having overlooked that.

They actually should have different contrast levels by default otherwise colorblind people can’t tell what messages are going over iMessage and which ones are going over SMS/MMS/RCS
In that light it makes sense the shitty unencrypted protocols get the shaft

notice how everything in the bottom image has a 1px outline to give it contrast on the blurry background. liquid ass would look much better if they just added outlines everywhere

Microsoft used to have actual ui people but then again so did apple. the mac os even in 1 bit is beautiful and functional
the fact is all of this shit is a solved issue and it should not be changing. at this point in time the interface should be set in stone much like a car with only small changes for aesthetics.
