I recently had an interview where I was asked what a class was and whether I used a vcs.

I unironically said "sorry, I guess I won't be passing this interview" because it's a fucking disgrace to be asked that question when I sent my resume with links to my open source projects that literally use git and literally have classes in them.

It's been less than a year since I stopped using OOP and I had to rack my brain to remember what a class was upon reading this thread. My brain is fried.

99,9% of them are copy-pasted sloppa from tutorials and/or written by an LLM

I include my projects on my resume and no hiring manager has ever looked at them beforehand. I would assume (perhaps naively) that every CS graduate would know what OOP is and what a VCS is.

Mine aren't, but that's the part that was insulting: the person interviewing me (abd he was also a senior engineer) didn't even look at my resume or gitea, because if he had, he wouldn't have asked those stupid ass questions. I wonder how common is it these days. Anyway, I'm employed saar.

Good for you. Most likely dodged a bullet there. Unless you like writing wordpress slop on the assembly line.

nobody looks at CVs after they pass initial screening and you go beyond an intro-call to schedule the proper interview
more so, nobody ever bothers to go through links mentioned on CV like you're repos and other crap
nobody also wastes any time to check and confirm legitimacy and truthfulness of anything written on you're CV
interviewers also have no idea how dumb you are in reality and if any of that stuff mentioned on you're project history is true or not - so they start with basics very often
dumb questions on interviews are also there to check you're reaction if you will become aggressive or cocky over it

That's crazy. I was one of several technical interviewers for about two years (before I threatened to quit over it). Unless you're a huge faggot, spending 20 minutes to google someone's resume is really the least you can do for someone who sacrificed their day to show up and talk with you. I pretty much just had people walk me through projects including strategy, political considerations, important tactical considerations, maintenance, testing, etc. People who can't do this are full of shit, you literally are listing shit you want to talk about on a piece of paper, and then can't talk about what you listed? Get the fuck out of here.

The only problem we saw with open source people is too much "should" thinking, and if we were plugging you in with a bunch of barely functional retards, we don't need that, we need incremental improvement and light persistence over long periods of time, not grand rethinking of how things "should" be. Hence why I always tried to get a sense of how they worked around stupid politics, whether they concede things that don't matter to accomplish business goals, but that is more related to the roles we were hiring for. Championship teams are generally not hiring.
