Why is file management / exploring so autistic on android? Can't they just have something that resembles the window / linux system where you can just hand craft it yourself?

Works on my machine. Try using a real file manager like Material Files.

fossify file manager is also good and free. Open source tend to be pretty sane compared to some stock provided by manufactures

Android is android. Anyone who thinks android is like linux or is linux, is fucking retarded. It's a sandbox running on top of a heavily modified linux kernel with custom vendor modules.

this.
I've bought a phone supported by postmarketOS, it's basically the same mainline Linux as on any x86 system, and it's beautiful.
I can run the same software as on my PC, i can have actual root access, i can build the kernel with new settings enabled, i can mount NFS shares (even works with Kerberos), i can use any advanced kernel networking features like VXLANs, bonding USB and Wifi interfaces, i can use iptables/nftables, i can ssh into it, as well as ssh/VNC from it to my PC, i can bind power button double-tap to flashlight toggle, i can customize everything...
This is what Android took from us.

File browsers on mobile is just weird in general, yeah. I have had multiple times being really confused because the file explorer shows aggregated lists (like "Documents" or "Photos" that pull similar files from multiple directories and show them all together in the same view) next to actual directories, with the same folder icon, so you can't tell what is an aggregated list and what is a real directory.
It's probably trying to be beginner-friendly or something, but it's more confusing and probably inhibits newbies more than it helps
