He's right, Windows is responsible for total GUI stagnation, it's by far one of the worst still, 0 advancements for a better user experience.

Windows 95 and Mac OS 7 through 9 were some of the best designed desktop operating systems ever made. Hell, they are some of the best UI designs ever made. Everything since has been a downgrade.

How come multiuser OSes don't seem to share the gui when multiple people log in together? An OS should have a shared gui so a dozen people could all log in and see what each other is doing.

BeOS was slightly better, IMHO, but very similar.
Slightly more efficient on space.
Has more of a “max headroom” vibe to it.

I don't get the people who are modifying config files and making 2000 custom ahk scripts on windows, you may as well just switch to linux at that point. You can't really use the "i dont want to use the command line it's too hard" excuse any more.

the guy uses a bunch of proprietary machinima tools that probably don't run all that well in linux. i agree otherwise, especially since MS tries to fight you every step of the way if you change shells.

>the ui is not pleasing to the eye of dashneequa doordasha, a 23 year old stanford bachelor of product design therefore its bad okay???
a white man finds it useful and believes it looks good enough to not be an eyesore therefore appeal to beauty is invalid
Anonymous No.105877407 [Report] >>105877429 >>105877434
>>105877402
The entire intro to the video is just bunch of appeals to beauty. I found it ironic that he shit on a bunch of UIs only to show one that looked 10x worse.
Anonymous No.105877424 [Report] >>105877781
started watching and so far he basically just remade existing windows 10 functionality
- hiding the desktop icons is just not putting shortcuts on the desktop
- the desktop right click menu is just the w10 start menu but worse
- the hidden system tray is just the hidden system tray
if he just updated to 10 and learned how to use the operating system many of his problems would be solved
Anonymous No.105877429 [Report]
>>105877407
he knows it looks like shit, part of the video is him complaining how he had to compromise because windows kept breaking everything each update and how his workflow wont even work on 10
Anonymous No.105877434 [Report]
>>105877407
it's noble to pursue beauty but the system should always prioritize functionality, the modern windows design is plainly retarded and any attempts to make it more functional at the cost of beauty are worth it
though I agree that he may have went too far, for me startallback+total commander was sufficient to make windows less disgusting - just 2 programs and you get rid of the retarded react native ui, get a reasonable quick access to the common programs, and attach the taskbar to the side of the screen while not making it all look too alien to my inner dashneequa
Anonymous No.105877781 [Report]
>>105877424
The goal isn't the functionality but how it looks, you retard.

But that makes no sense, because he complains that humans are naturally imperfect. Mouse movements are the most inaccurate part of humans. Pressing buttons is way more accurate and predictable. He's literally contradicting himself.

Dude's the ultimate mousecuck. He elaborated further in the comments that programmers are more keyboard-centric in their UI design since they're spending all their time typing, which contrasts with audio/video editing which is all mouse-centric and lends itself better to whatever abomination he's come up with. Probably true, but the programmers are the ones making the interfaces and the youtube editors aren't. Frankly I couldn't disagree more with every point he makes, but the single ounce of truth you can walk away from the video with is that the most ideal UI has keybinds for everything when your hands are on the keyboard, has gestures for everything when your hands are on the trackpad, and has hot corners/squiggles for when your hands are on the mouse. but no programmer wants to have that much fucking contingency in their project when they're enacting TOTAL MOUSE DEATH with their ebin window manager setup.
