Why does 4chan have an SQL table for every board and not just one table and the board code as its primary identifier ? Then the post table would have the board code and the number (incrementing for each code) as a composite primary key. Why this strange data design ?

why would you need a composite primary key for posts? just have a unique id and keep the pot number separately.
