ipad mini, or one of those nice lenovo 8 inch tablets. I had an ipad pro for that usecase for a while, it was too big in the end. Kept thinking that I might as well carry a laptop around with that size and especially weight.

Is that an iPad Pro 5 12.9”? I bought a 3 year old second hand one recently and the colors of objects and texts bloom if it has a dark/black background. Apparently it’s due to the screen’s design and is seen on brand new ones as well. Other than that it’s fine. Also if you get an apple pencil with it get a case that seperates the pencil from the tablet because having it on all the time drains the battery fast. Other than that I have no issues.

It depends on your use case and your smartphone. If you have an iPhone, just get an iPad A16, if you need more power go with a M2 iPad Air, you don't need more power than that on a tablet. If you have an Android, I'd just go with Samsung, they make the best ones, so if you want something budget for basic tasks get the A9 Plus, if you need more get the S10 FE, more? S10 Plus.
