Unironically, how are these?

Look into how scrolling works with that, lmao

That's the best part

Ring scrolling ones are great. I use a trackball regularly, my wrist feels so much better.

My father has been using them for more than 30 years. He used to get pain from normal mice, but track balls solved this issue.

I've used one almost exclusively for the past 6 years. They're good for everything I care about, even rts and fps games

What about one of those mice that looks normal but with a ball on the side?
Anonymous No.105871020 [Report] >>105871710
I wish they were more popular cause most of them are just barely okay. We really need better quality control, buttons, layouts, and extra features to make up for how stupid expensive and basic these are
But I can't go back to a normal mouse, not even vertical mice do it for me

Those are shit because you roll the ball with your thumb giving you a different but just as bad fucked up hand in the long (and not that long) term

I use Elecom HUGE instead of the CAD-style trackball. I've use mice, standalone trackpads, game controllers, and everything else. This is the best device I've had.

I used to game with this trackball's larger, older brother.

What? It should be the opposite. There's less wrist movement with a thumb ball.

Better then OG wired Slimblade.
Way better optical sensor, more precise, lower lag etc.
Bearings aren't the best I've ever used but pretty good unlike the Elecom huge terrible stock ones. doesn't gum up easily like the Slimblade

I have top right button remapped to scroll mode, works fine, I don't miss the twist scroll but didn't hate it either.

Is there a good vertical trackball?

I might get this, seems to meet all my needs. Anything you don't like about it, anon? Any quirks or something?

No these fucking suck, they are nice in theory but they are shit tier in maintenance, I regret buying one and moved to the slimblade after all the micromanagement that piece of shit requires. Slimblade also has better button placement.
>qmk
I can remap the slimblade on linux without any external software

Personally, I find them the most painful of all devices. Very unnatural movement of the thumb.

The final redpill is learning the magic trackpad series mogs all of these mice especially on linux because they work naively. You just need to install touchegg to change the pad finger shortcuts to whatever you want if you're on KDE

What kind of maintenance does it require?

The bearings collect gunk all the same but they hold it in DEEP.
Cleaning them is a nightmare and on top of that there really isn't any protection for the sensor so it's possible that any debris can get in there meaning you will have to dissemble the whole fucking thing to fix it something I have never encountered in 25 years of using trackballs.
By the third time of me having this issue I just replaced it. The whole gunk mantra they parrot on reddit and discord means fuck all if you actually wash your hands, it takes less than a minutes to clean the slimblade after 2 weeks of use.
