I run my own mail server and I got decent deliverability to everything but outlook. I run my server at home and to bypass port 25 restrictions I have a VPS with hetzner that just runs a relayhost for postfix.

For the false sense of security at the cost of fewer features and a worse ecosystem

It's the best alternative to gmail that providers don't autoblock like the other anon mentioned that isn't dogshit. Plus their ecosystem in general is pretty nice. Their drive is pretty good and I really like their password manager. Email aliases are fucking great.
My only complaint with them is their VPN. Their servers are so fucking shit I have to switch servers every few hours to get one that hasn't slowed to a crawl. I've never had to do this with any other VPN I've used before.
