In fact, if you're used to something like a big cushioned office chair with a pillow headrest and all that, getting one of the fancy office chairs is probably going to be a pretty uncomfortable transition.
However, I think they're far superior in terms of ergonomics and longevity. They're much more accommodating to minor adjustments in your sitting/arm position, which goes a long way towards reducing arm/back strain and sore spots in the long run. They retain their comfort for much longer than cheaper chairs, which tend to feel like complete shit in 1-3 years (yes, maybe those are cheaper to keep replacing in the long run, but I best most people are probably sticking with their awful chairs with degraded cushioning for way too long before replacing them). I think they also nudge you towards using less-degenerate sitting positions over time.
