Two years ago, I was working in manufacturing (mostly mechanical design). I hated my job, there wasn't any motivation or real drive to do anything worthwhile, I wasted my early 20s and felt like a total fuckup.
Decided to quit, sold my gaming PC and all my accounts, bought a thinkpad, installed Linux and started learning CLI and Python using these two books. I've always liked working with computers but I never gave myself the opportunity to fully commit to anything. Two years later I've learned a lot by myself; Networking, Sysadmining, APIs, Automation, Cybersec, etc, after working my way through helpdesk, IT and entry level programming jobs I've finally landed a really cool job as an automation engineer. You guys have no idea how happy and fulfilled i feel.
I've also learned a lot through small projects and ideas i got from this forum, and this is my small thank you to everyone, there are some really cool and ingenious people here.
It might take some time, it might break your spirit knowing how complex the world is, but never give up, there is always a way.
How the fuck are those books so thick? Like what is in them to make them that big? Shouldn't it only be like 100 pages each max?
Rare good quality and wholesome thread
>>105876381The Linux Command Line goes really deep into some of the story and context behind some coreutils and the way Linux does some things, which i found really cool.
The Python one has a lot of chapters dedicated to guided projects

Congratulations anon, /g/ actually helped me when I was in a tight spot too and the resources in /wdg/ were great. I've been working as frontend web developer for almost 6 years now and I while I don't really feel excited about it, it certainly beats my previous manual labor job by a mile.
