Why did Applets disappear?
Websites are more like apps than ever before.

i guess it's because javascript is easier to pick up
also it integrates with web content instead of being a self contained program in a website

They had massive security issues. These days you could theoretically have reasonably safe Java applets but interest in them completely died before most of this site was even born.

Anything that ever came out of adobe and oracle is utter dogshit and everybody agreed. I am glad that flash is dead. I am glad that applets are dead. One of the best things steve jobs have ever done was never supporting flash on iphones.

I don't get how they failed to sandbox the applets.

The only reason why wasm exists is because there's complicated apps as websites.
It's unbelievable that modern websites have enough code that isn't related to dom rendering is big enough for the faster speed of wasm will be good for it.
