My best friend has cerebral palsy. Spent most of his childhood in and out of wheel chairs because they broke his legs like 15 times to straighten out the bones so he could walk on his own. I'll never forget the day he was hanging out at my house back in 2001 or so. I was working for a commercial webdev company at the time that produced forum software and needed to make some quick mock up icons for the templates I was working on for our new major version.

I fired up GIMP because I didn't want to jump on Windows box to run pirated photoshop. The splash screen popped up with a big WELCOME TO GIMP message or whatever it says (sorry not a big graphicsfag).

My friend saw it and asked me what it was. I told him it was some FOSS photoshop clone. He got all butthurt about it and 25 years later he still brings it up from time to time.

Guy has never owned or really used a PC. Still he hates this project with the burning of a thousand suns.

I'm trying real hard to actually use Gimp, but everything about is so dysfunctional. I have a folder with 7000+ image files in it. Windows explorer has no issues opening it, Photoshop has no issues opening it. Gimp however takes up to 10 seconds, and that isn't even the worst part. When I have to export an image from Gimp, it INSISTS on first opening the folder the image originated from, and for some reason it will take even longer this time, up to 30 seconds. Every single time. As far as I can tell there's no way to make it not open the source folder, or not scan every file inside or whatever the fuck it's doing that takes so fucking long. What a piece of fucking shit software.

The problem is that Gimp (in addition to other foss shitware like Blender) is that it, for some silly reason, insists on using its own shitty file picker instead of the native OS file picker. Their own freetard file picker doesn't support proper thumbnails, doesn't support having more than about 500 files in each folder, and also looks like ass.
