I got into Warhammer and wanted to buy a few books, however the ones I'm interesed in are no longer being sold. They're available only in a form if e-books. I never owned and e-book reader, don't even know how that shit works. What's the gold standard for an e-book reader?

It's a DRM hellscape
You can read them on PC but they need to be activated with adobe's awful ebook reader then you can transfer it to a dedicated ebook reader

Gold standard for me is the cheapest device that can run Koreader, thus requiring no file conversion or similar faggotry. You just copy the files over and read, any formats.
Would strongly advise to get a jailbroken Kindle Paperwhite (11th gen or the latest, doesn't matter, they are the same), should be cheap as dirt.
Kobo, Pocketbook are fine too, but more expensive. Any chink noname reader is probably fine, the screen are made by the same company anyway. Would avoid Android, as Koreader is basically an operating system of its own, but Android readers might be more convenient to some (muh apps).

You can read the books on your PC. Sumatra opens up stuff like epub and such.

Just get a tablet. Dedicated e-readers still only do greyscale and are shit for most tabletop RPG/wargame books.
