How do I build large data storage without everyone thinking I'm a porn addict?

I am, but that's beside the point.

1. Find a laptop that you don't use
2. Hook it up to an external HDD drive.

That's fine but if you're tech savvy you can have home storage that uses less power than your home PC while being able to serve everything a single user will need for between 15-30 watts idle.
The variance is due to the energy some drives take

I have a 16TB NAS that's almost completely full and only 50GB of it is porn. There's honestly very little porn ever made that's worth saving. The last good porn star was Teen Kasia from 20 years ago so of course I made sure to save an entire sitrerip of her. I'll probably be still be jacking off to her 50 years from now because women keep getting uglier and fatter and porn only keeps getting worse and worse every year.

The category that's dying the fastest is teen porn, because zoomers have been gaslit by decades of feminist propaganda to have a psychological aversion to young attractive women. Even actual 18 year olds making porn today don't really advertise themselves as teens and try to make themselves look older to appeal to the average zoomer. The decline of both porn and the quality of women in general is directly attributable to the weak will and mindset of the zoomer male.

When a family member stumbled upon a dead man's synology with about 40tb of HDDs, one of her first reactions was that it needed to be powered on to check for CP.

It was later learned thr guy was a photographer but unless you are one if the few class of people where it makes sense that you would have terabytes of anything, its suspicious.

I think it makes sense to share the drive with people you know and love so I have 16tb on my end and it's to store all of my main with paperless ngx as well as other people's mail and documents if the choose to do so. I also want to be able to run office suites on all of our devices without slow down so migrating our office to nextcloud seems like a sensible thing to do. The only worry is that I can't get a family member outside of my home to use it so offsite backups are kind of fucked and I can't really account for any stupid shit they might do on their network that could compromise this sensitive data.
I think that's a good usecase for a large server especially if you want to save money on shit like dropbox

Mostly full ROM sets and movie collections in remux'd blu-ray quality. It's also only really 12TB since a quarter of the space is being used for parity. I could easily fill up 100TB of space if I had it, but that's just too expensive for me.

Pic related is what I was sent after they called me about it.
>almost no one even knows what a fucking terabyte is
They definitely know
They know if their laptop or playstation has maybe 1-2, their phone has under a TB. To have tens of terabytes is kinda unfathomable.
There is probably a class of normies who have absolutely no clue either way but anyone in the first world knows how many of their shitty compressed family photos can fit in a TB.
One of my coworkers proclaimed himself a "data hoarder" because he had an 8tb hdd.

The normie perspective isn't very good towards those with so much storage without a use case that makes sense. Even my NAS which mostly contains pirated media doesn't make much sense to the streaming population. My uncles used to be hardcore torrent users so they know the rub but even those who casually pirate now are streaming it.

That archive is shit though. Every time I've looked for a book on libgen that included full page image scans, it was always so low res and compressed that I just decided to buy the actual book instead. Nobody has ever really attempted to make a high quality archive of book scans, except maybe google, but they'll never be able to make it public due to copyright laws. I imagine an archive of every book ever written scanned at >600 dpi with in a lossless image format would probably take up exabytes of space though.

It has never once occurred to me that people associate data hoarding with porn hoarding.
I use my NAS thing for pirated media (the vast majority of it), backing up important documents and priceless photos, syncthing (GOAT) and MAYBE some kind of game server once in a blue moon.
How do you even reach the point of keeping terabytes of porn? do you just save literally anything vaguely erotic you encounter?
If I were to save everything I like to the point of going back to it I doubt I could get to 50gb

usually just do an rm -rdf * in the download directory every month or so since it fills up my 4TB buffer drive quite fast
some stuff i do save, porn not so much anymore
i probably have a good 5TB of porn, much of which i havent even looked at since saving it
then there is the 42TB of movies and series also, and 8TB of anime

I discard more and more of my porn every year despite having access to one of the big trackers. I've got like 12TB saved out of 14.4TB to my NAS and only 1.2 of it is porn. I barely ever watch any of it, even with the current state of things where I am super selective. Only amateur stuff feels worth preserving and thankfully usually has a very small file size. Some stuff you just cannot let go, because porn is truly the most likely kind of data to just go entirely missing off the internet with not so much as a whimper. We've all got a video or two like that.

>>105908386
I've also built my own NAS, using a 4U Silverstone rackmount and furnishing the rest of the parts from Supermicro. I ended up spending almost as much as a high end consumer NAS, but I valued being able to pick my own NAS OS and also have good build quality. 10 Bays but still haven't expanded past 3 (a mirror and a hot spare). I'll be relying on this motherfucker for decades to come.

1. no one even knows what those things are outside of tech enthusiasts.
2. even people who know what they are will just assume that you have movies, games and other catalogued data
3. put it near your PC so it just looks like a part of your setup
4. you're the only one who knows how much of a coomer brain you are.

Are there any good chassis to hold 5-6 drives without any vendor lockin? I just want a nice, compact, cube that's around the size of a Synology NAS that I can install Debian + OpenZFS on to serve as my NAS.

Maybe two, so one could be the backup.

because the average person is a selfish leech and even high quality content worth preserving will eventually wither away and die forever because people lost interest in it and stopped seeding. storage is pretty cheap and should only get cheaper so this makes sense for me.

you having a NAS is irrelevant to anyone but you unless you specifically tell them. they won't likely even know shit about that enough to even formulate this opinion that you might be a porn addict, as for most of them the concept of actually archiving and saving porn is outlandish when you could just stream it. if in some theorycraft scenario about someone asking you what your NAS is for or why you need so much storage, just list any of the gazillion facking reasons for doing so that arent related to your degenerate retardation, of which there are many, i use my NAS for archiving a lot of different mediums of work i create. video and audio work in lossless formats, scans of film negatives in large tiff images, lots of high resolution stuff, hours long radio shows in FLAC, backups of things, etcetc. you could tell them you're processing astronomical data from various international telescopes and solar probes. parsing weather data idk.

It's usually available somewhere out there but i don't see the point in people making it harder for themselves. Going back to rewatch favorite scenes is probably the most common use for a hard drive. There's some people who just stream anything they're presented with on a porn site's front page but i've never understood that. It's like choosing to eat subpar or gross food when there's tasty alternatives.

Step 2: Build the fucking thing
Step 3: Stop caring about some retard's imaginary opinion, you're literally schiz'ing out over scenarios you fabricated in your own head wherein you're oppressed by your own imagination

>>So what are you actually storing?
I lived through the xvid avi rips on 13" 768p laptop days
once I finally got that 4K TV got that 4K monitor and got that deluxe apartment in the sky all my old shit became damn near unwatchable

the amount of shit I had to reodownload...not just redownload actively hunt down decent copies of. And then you find out a bunch of 4K transfers are actually garbage.

I learned all that shit about encoding just to see in the end what it always was, just a cope for low space. Sure you can filter with some stuff or you can tinkertranny with mpv all you want at the end you are just masturbating to your own autism. Once you just start grabbing remuxes it's easier to just buy another hard drive than sort this shit out. If you don't like the look just grab another one.

I see some people are reencoding shit to AV1 to save space on their hoards. I don't have the energy for that anymore. Even ripping discs yourself requires special sauce BD drives with the goldilocks firmware. Shit even playing some of these discs requires the last of its bloodline intel CPU generation if you don't want to go full boomer with dedicated BD players. Dolby Vision has just piled on the shit to make things even more annoying.

At this point the hoard is in control. But the other side is 2 billion times worse.

Audio/Visual media was a mistake
