ive been dailying this lenovo g50-70 since 2018 but now that win 10 is gonna die and chrome's v2 extensions are gonna die with it i was wondering what i can do to the laptop to make it last longer cuz im broke and cant afford something new yet lol

the battery is degraded as hell but still works, barely lasts for 30 min on idle doing nothing

the cpu is an i5 4210u
the gpu is an amd hd 8550m
its ram is maxed at 16gb

i removed the cd rom to add the hard drive there instead, and the original spot fof the hard drive got this ssd in it instead

and thats all there is to it i guess

what linux distro should i get? which hardware can i tinker with to get a lil bit more power out of it? i heard disabling some intel cpu security stuff will make it faster and/or using custom gpu drivers but idk

I didn't have good experience with using Linux on my older laptop. Still slow as ever. This is coming from a guy who daily drive Linux on my desktop.

Just get a job and buy an early gen used P14s/T14 Thinkpad for like $300.

i was eyeing a t14 amd gen, or a t480 with the nvidia gpu for an extra kick, but i am still unemployed and unlike what some people say about gen z i actually want to be employed, its that where i live the job market is so bad i cant even land a minimum wage job like a cashier because everyone is overstaffes and understaffed simultainoisly somehow

also fun fact i just discovered while i was lurking, this cpu supports the avx2 instruction set, which means it can run a linux os called cachyos, you think its solid?

its also arch without the manual installation becauee i dont think im autistic enough for that

You get nothing out of using Linux, no perfornance boost whatsoever.
You CAN stick to lightweight desktop environment like lxqt to get some performance boost but they are essentially buggy abandonware. Don't do it.

i will be using 11 ltsc when 10 ltsc is eol around early 2032 when im still not convinced to use linux

zen browser...idk i dont like vertical tabs im already used to normal ones, plus the vertical tabs take more screen space and i dont open that many tabs all at once, maximum is around 5 or 6 and if i open more i just group them
