Is it stable enough to be considered a replacement to Windows 10 IoT LTSC already?
Is /g/ already making the move? (Don't pretend you aren't, you said the same thing during Win7 to Win10 era)

I was going to install Win11 LTSC IoT, but then I realized it still doesn't support the 9950X3D properly (and the new Intels for that matter) so I just said fuck it and installed WIn11 Pro 24H2. I'll see again when the next version comes out, only time will tell.

It's the same thing as Windows 10, just without the bloat. (or at least, most of it is gone) Also, several years of support.
Supposedly you can add all that shit back on there via. Powershell, but who would want that?

1) Installing Windows Store with wsreset -i doesn't always work. Had to install then uninstall some Xbox app which pulls in WS as a dependency.
2) Installing the new Notepad etc. from WS installs them per user instead of system wide.
3) The snipping tool doesn't trigger a Windows notification containing the screenshot, nor does it save the picture to disk, so I had to install Snipping Tool from WS.
4) You can't always install the latest version of UWP apps from rg-adguard.net for some reason. The only way to always get the latest is through WS. For example Snipping Tool.

LTSC 10 had none of these problems except #3.

Been using Windows 11 for work
Windows 10 for home gayman

From a user experience I don't see much issue. The fact that everything is centralised on the task bar is annoying but you can fix that.

I can't speak to the backend side of things. Probably some NSA backdoors and what not. Bitlocker is by default on Windows 11 I think, which means your data is encrypted by a proprietary algo when I'd much prefer open source. Saying that at least its encrypted where as I can never be bothered setting it up on Windows 10. Probably data harvests you but we were worried about that with Windows 10.

Basically I don't see enough value in switching to Windows 11, so I'm pretty annoyed they made it practically mandatory and might look at switching to a Linux distro at home for a bit just to see what I'm actually loosing out on.

Our living room PC, that is only used for browsing amazon and aliexpress, was bugging me for win11.
The CPU is too old and not supported, cause it misses some obscure instruction or something.

I first tried to install Win11 IoT LTSC anyway, which does work, according to the internet.
The installation was slow. So while the installation was going, i was pondering about my actions.

Then i realized, that it isn't very smart to install something, that doesn't support my hardware, even if it works. The only reason for choosing Win11 was "because it is newer". Which doesn't justify the possible pain unsupported hardware could cause.
I cancelled the installation and went with Win10 IoT LTSC instead.
Works great.

Pro has more telemetry that the group policies flat out ignore, it even says so on them iirc. the real upside imo is you never get new "features"" that MS rolls out.

LTSC basically just gets security patches, so MS won't fuck it up with "feature enhancements". They'll release an entire new LTSC image instead of forcing you to upgrade. The downside is if they release something actually useful you won't get it, but thus far MS' track record doesn't point to that being an actual problem

On Windows 11, there is a noticable delay with interacting with anything. This can be tied to the dogshit that is WinUI 3. Seriously, check the Github.

Instability for some people.
Laggy task view, buggy taskbar (unless you get StartAllBack).
Worse Start Menu (unless you get WindHawk).
Setting one separate desktop background will make desktop switching an even more laggy experience.
Slow Windows Explorer.

Windows 11 is in a perpetual beta/alpha, it feels worse than early Windows 10, and its been out for three years now.

Oh, and the Settings app is STILL incomplete, over 10 years now!

This level of obsolescence is really bizarre to me.
Windows 10 and 11 have very little differences, not much of a gap between hardware and software generations, and yet we're seeing drivers drop support for it? Fuck off.
Shit like this made more sense when Windows 9x jumped to XP. Vastly different then, and now tech is not rapidly evolving as it was before. (at least for consumers, and excluding AI advancements)

I'll wait for a future version of Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC. For now, I'm using Windows 10 version and I'm completely satisfied.

Just lynch yourself already.
Nobody wants your trash OS.

it's pretty stable...granted i do disable a shitton of stuff from the OS, most startup apps and use simplewall to keep the microslop telemetry at a minimum.

i don't notice any slowness or instability, even on a slower laptop from 2012 it works just as fast. on the other hand the pro version that came in my uni issued laptop with an NVMe SSD still felt slow and sluggish, switching to 24H2 LTSC absolutely made it way faster and gave it more screen time. it's incredible how much computing power anti user slop parasites from your system. it's like going from an overweight couch potato to amateur runner it's a night and day difference in usability.

Again, check the WinUI github.

https://github.com/microsoft/microsoft-ui-xaml/issues/9565

https://github.com/Noemata/XamlBenchmark

https://github.com/microsoft/microsoft-ui-xaml/discussions/8595

The delays are documented and the devs have done nothing about it to date.

When Windows Explorer launches, there is a delay in loading the ribbon, if you are in dark mode it may still flashbang you too, just like Windows 10.

Set up six (6) desktops and set the background for one (and only one) of them. There will be a noticable stutter in switching, especially if you have accent colors following the wallpaper.

The start menu comes down to preferrence. On Windows 10, I can like both the list and pinned apps displayed at once.

Microsoft will NEVER shed win32 legacy settings, and that's fine. Backward compatibility is a great feature. But what's stopping them from implementing it in new UI? They have done it before with volume management.

The official subreddits and Microsoft's forums have the same reports.

I'm indifferent to Windows 10/11, they are just platforms to run our software. But that was my experience with Windows 11 24H2 LTSC and Pro, your milage may vary.

I'm actually not this time OP. I've already got my parts ordered, and it doesn't include a windows key.
