Apparently, Iran rounded up dozens of Indian tech//IT/programmers for spying for another country. Apparently they embedded a shit load of backdoors in software used by the Iranian government which were used in the attack on their nuke facilities. Would you trust it even if it's open source?

The problem is that of all the millions of users, everyone of them thinks one of the others is looking out for them. In truth, no one is auditing the code. The more a person advocates FOSS, the less a chance he reads any.

I know of at least 1 project to address this, there’s an invite-only project for 3rd person audits of open source code (can’t remember the name atm). It is also trivial to look for obfuscated code, or VM detection, both of which typically indicate a malicious program. There are also sandbox VMs which will let you know outgoing/incoming network requests, files changed, etc.
