The decline was due to Chrome claiming to be the fastest. The modern state of the internet efficiency and speed are an afterthought, and the only reason it's still used is because the defaults on Android and Apple. I’ve never donated anything but my own contributions to open source. Generally though, I find proprietary solutions are much better so just purchase those instead.
