And what computer have you used which has had the longest lifespan?

My current PC is 7 years old, the last one I used for 10 years (probably still works), last one before that was at least 9 years.

Oldest PC i had was a desktop that i let go to junk collectors because i was a fucking retard who preferred laptops (had it since i was 6 but i forgot the brand), 2nd oldest was a laptop my dad got me because he refused to give me a cellphone (sometime in 2012, it was an HP with WIN7), 3rd oldest was a gift my motther got me for Christmas in 2014 (ASUS), don't have either anymore because i was forced to let go of the former and i didn't really want to keep the latter but i do have the harddrives of both. Current PC? 4 1/2, built it the same year i got a job, got a thinkpad T430 2 years later but only started using it since last year but not for much besides old roms because it has loonix.

The computer I've used the longest is an old 486. I still use it for one task because it has proprietary dongle to control a large piece of industrial machinery. It could still chug along well enough to browse the web until around 2010 or so.

The PC I've used the longest for general purpose use was a 1999/2000-era AMD Thunderbird+Geforce 2 build with 512MB of RAM. It could still do everything I needed including web shit until around 2012. After that the web went full retard and the various Linux distros I'd been using for years started dropping support via various cancerware like Rust and systemd. I could have kept it going with Gentoo but it would have been very painful and there was no point due to Firefox going full retard.

My oldest computer still in active use aside from the 486 is my Amiga 1200. I still use it today for video toaster and the genlock. Although I use it less and less with each passing year because tools on general purpose PC finally got good enough and I've switched over to using shit like Domesday to rip LDs/VHS/Beta. The quality is much better when the capture card is taken out of the chain so now the only real thing I could use the Amiga for is timing subtitles and maybe overlaying effects. But I can do the latter much quicker on my UNIX machines.

I think you can still squeeze something more out of this one using freebsd and palemoon, it would be like going through molasses but still.

Right now I'm using a budget desktop I built in early 2023, Ryzen 3600, random assrock B550M, second hand 8GB RX580, 24GB RAM, two 1TB SSDs and one 4TB HDD. Some random non-modular seasonic PSU and Cooler Master case. Stock cooler but with Noctua case fans. Tempered glass side window broke so I replaced it with a piece of black plastic board from Hobby Lobby wrapped in carbon fiber vinyl.

My oldest computer T420s I bought in 2013 for college is still around kicking ass. What a computer. 1600x900, 16GB DDR, 128GB SSD later upgraded to 512GB, lightweight, strong, best keyboard, USB 3.0. Only downside was crappy battery life, I was never able to find the ODD bay battery for sale for a reasonable price. I have Debian 12 running and I still use it as seedbox, file server and jellyfin host. I have some older computers tho I bought for collecting but I don't really use them beyond turning them on and playing doom from time to time.

I believe it was built in 2013, purchased in 2014, and came into my possession in 2016. I started using it in 2017 (so Iโ€™ve been using it for 8 years now). Prior to that I had a DELL. I believe that one was purchased between 2007 and 2009, and I ran it until 2017 (between 8 and 10 years).

As for oldest computer I currently own I still have my old IBM Thinkpad from the 90s, but I never use it. Also have an old HP PA-RISC Machine, and a pair of sun Ultra Enterprise 400 (IIRC) servers. Don't use any of that though, it's basically decorative, though I had OpenBSD on the Suns at one point.

I also have decorative piece IBM pentium pro but I have it running 24/7 since it only draws 60w at idle with one cpu and 2 scsi drives. I really like the sound of old drives in workshop at night.

Thinkpad x61. 18 years old this year and still in daily use. Upgraded to SSD, flashed bios, 8gb ram, Linux ofc. I mainly code, write, use ai tools, listen to music and watch old anime. Apart from the screen being lackluster, it's an amazing laptop. I plan to keep it in use as long as I possibly can.

Which one? I am a hoarder with rooms full of computers/laptops going back to 1995. I can't sell or throw away any hardware.

But I did use my i7-3770k for 9 years. Nine looooong stagnated quad core years. Thanks intel. That machine has a fresh Win 11 install on it now and it's still pretty snappy.

>How old is your computer?
Almost 3 years, although the GPU is turning 5 this year since I bought it secondhand, while the rest of my build was new at the time.

>longest lifespan?
My previous PC; i7 6700k, 16GB RAM, GTX 1080, 256 GB SSD, it lasted 7 years and only became "obsolete" when my dumb ass decided to buy a 4k monitor and then wonder why games ran like shit. Realistically I could still be using it, but I wanted to upgrade anyway.

Oldest computer I own is a Pentium MMX 166, oldest computer I run modern/internet-connected shit on is an '08 spec rig with a Phenom X4 9850, 4GB RAM, 8800 GTX, dual booting XP and Windows 10.

Windows 10 runs surprisingly well on such an old machine though, probably thanks to it using a more modern SSD. Hell, with Edge I can even watch 1080p youtube - firefox won't go above 720p for some reason.
