but seriously, how stupid would that be?
I've got an old thinkpad I was thikning of setting up for some oldschool c and opengl gamedev
I suppose I could keep it entirely off the internet and use one of my other 300 devices to go online
if only I had some sort of shared network clipboard
I can probably do it, but I'll need to at least connect it to the network and that's probably enough for it to expose itself, for all I know

if you just browse popular sites like 4chan, reddit, youtube, etc. why would your windows xp installation get viruses?

if you expose ports 135, 139 or 445 to the internet it will get network worms (RPC, LSASS vuln, etc) the same way if you have a weak ssh password in linux and forward port 22 it will get worms

if you have NAT (usually on by default in modern routers) and don't forward the ports, or block the services, or install a firewall, you will not get any

once a month isn't enough. Your ISP will react in a matter of hours if you have a rapidly spreading worm and cut off your internet connection

>>105948368
if you mean basic NAT, which is probably on by default in your router, then that's probably the simplest way to avoid network worms. Your web browser still has to be secure so that you don't get drive-by downloads by browser exploit

Firefox for windows 7 and r3dfox. There's a whole ecosystem of XP/Vista compatible browser forks that also work on win7. There are bigger problems with 7 than browsers. Namely that all the recent security updates add windows 10 style spyware into the kernel.

Isn't that just a handful of telemetry updates that you can avoid if you know what you're doing? Simplix doesn't include them afaik.
