Maybe the greatest deal in all of computing if you stepped out of your time machine into 2013 and need a computer.

M1 still can't run linux properly. If money is no object you're still better off with bargain bin chromebooks.

no of course not, I saw an Apple m4 air for ~950 on amazon prime day. Sure it's not a pro but both only have 16gb. Maybe the air only had 256gb but whatever man, 512gb is also not enough

not the greatest of all time but the 2021 Pro is a tank and an absolute workhorse. easily worth $860. also the mini LED XDR screen on these units are incredible

m1 pro benches comparable to m4 in an air though. m1 pro also has 200gb/s bandwidth and a faster GPU than the air. Screen on the air is dogshit too compared to the mini LED on the 16" Pro.

don't buy Apple products rofl, they are proprietary garbage. Their OS is worse than Windows, their hardware is a bit better but really? really? You are going to use a completely different OS and software ecosystem just because you want a bit shinier nicer hardware? there is no way you are that dumb, do you realize how much time you will have to invest into learning everything that is only useful in their walled garden?

Airs are dogshit, maybe they're fine for light browsing/office work but you don't pay $800+ for that. If you insist on going Apple there's no reason not to get an MBP

seems like the m1 pro is 30% worse in benchmarks and slightly worse in real world apps too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eqDjFGyoy8

meanwhile you forgot to mention that the air is obviously far more portable and idk if the thing about the screen is real

you are lying dude, they even use a totally different library format like .dylib, their executables contact Apple servers before they can run, and the list of differences on a very deep base level are huge. There is no way you are not just lying

that's easily verifiable moron. the airs come with generic (shit) LCDs. you want mini LED HDR comaptible XDR screens you pay the premium price.

The M1 Pro curb stomps the M4 in transcoding, encoding and other GPU intensive tasks (i.e. a common use case for people who deal with video production)

I will say that the last time I used macos was in like 2016 so the shit like sending executables to apple servers sounds weird and I don't know about that
but otherwise my experience back then is that it's not that different from something like BSD, just with a shiny UI on top
some shit specific to how the OS works is different, you don't have gnu coreutils so you rely on posix more, but otherwise most things can be recompiled and will just werk

Depends on where the t480 owner lives. At any rate, the stinkpad will cost less to upgrade AND repair compared to that Apple ewaste. They need AppleCare which is funded by clueless bozos blinded by the fruit logo.

Only apple you'll see me buy is a 128GB+ Unified Memory Studio unit off craigslist, for offline VLAN air-gapped inferencing. That 16GB in OP pic is garbage.

I only run Qubes OS right now.
