Debian Trixie will be released on August 9th. It'll be as good a time as any to switch to the /coziest/ Linux distro ever conceived.

I'm at the point where Bookworm feels a bit past the expiration date so I'm on Tumbleweed at the moment (I know I could just use Trixie but I need dotnet for development, which isn't available for Trixie yet), but very much looking forward to the new release!

Feels kinda rushed... Hard freeze on July 27th, release on August 9th. I'll give it a month or 2 before updating.

Once every two years, Debian Stable chuds get to experience what it's like to have an up to date OS. They honeymoon for the next year. Then things start to feel a little crusty. "Should I update to Testing? How bad can it be?". They update to Testing. Things are fine for a while. But then the broken packages roll in. They get impatient. "Hell, I'll just dist-upgrade to Sid. It's not much different from Testing." So they upgrade to Sid. Everything seems fine. And then it happens. An unsolvable issue. They have hit the limit of their knowledge. Web forums aren't helping. Mailing lists aren't helping. If only they knew C, maybe they could fix this. So they study the source code. They learn how the OS fits together at a deep level. Days turn into weeks. They start falling behind on their actual work. Their personal life starts to suffer. "You know what, maybe I should just try Arch."

Imagine... Only distro I would switch to right now is devuan, but there is no reason to do that because debian stable (still) works.

This happened to me too, except upgrading to sid destroyed xorg and my DE. My file server still runs debian though.

I'm used to apt and that's a bit bloated for my old netbook. I guess I either stick it out with bookworm or change OS. There is no 32 bit kernel I think in Debian 13 so upgrading within 12 really feasible.

You can turn off recommended packages, and you can install the "generic desktop" option and the WM of your choice. But ok

Just saying: I will not be switching to debian. JK I've been using debian for over 2 decades..

I stay on stable. No need for bleeding edge for me. I can always run appimage/snap/flatpak but I don't see why..

This. I've running debian for so long, I can't remeber what I used before. I run entire servers with hundreds of debian (LXC) containers on them, I've been hyped for debian 13 for years but that bitchass ruined it. Been preparing to jump ship from debian ever since and I've been telling all my friends who would have installed debian instead of windows 11 to chose something else.

Unless debian purges every diddler and cuts all ties to canonical and gnome, I'm not going to install it ever again. Remove everyone left of center-left while at it for good measure.

I'm also appalled by every Linux tech tuber toeing the canonical line. Not even Kenny said a single damn thing. My disgust and disappointment is immeasurable.
