What do you guys think of Proton? They are private oriented and are Swiss based. They offer both paid and free tiered services such as email, cloud drive, password management, VPN, and more.

I tried to use it but
>no privacy
>no IMAP
>FSF doesn't recommend it
>connections to Federal government of the United States, NSA, FBI, CIA etc.
I switched to Runbox. Runbox has shit quality half broken web UI but I can use IMAP+PGP through Betterbird and LineageOS and it is perfect. I also now have email aliases that I use to throwaway accounts.

Protonmail is the best gmail alternative if hiding messages from glow in the darks isn't a concern, haven't looked back on gmail since switching several years ago. If I really need to send secure messages and files, I'd shove USB drives up my butthole and hand deliver them to my recipients in a striker car.

Doesn't have features (or they're paid add-ons) that every other webmail providers have had standard for decades.
Their "privacy" claims are bullshit, they'll hand out details of every user to any glowie who asks.
They go after anyone who points any of this out.

I used to do it until I realized its pretty fucking retarded and I could you know, just not use an email.
Nowadays if I want to register for something I just use some throwaway email service(search for some that bypasses their spam filters) and if its necessary to be associated with me like my bank or amazon account, I just use my mom's account.
>inb4 work
I just use the mail they provide me and in case of sending resumes I got an outlook just for that purpose.

Protonmail is probably better than gmail/hotmail/icloud/yahoo or whatever. But it's more of a question if you prefer them or google to have your information, and how much of a user profile you want them to build.
They are also on the more expensive side, especially if you don't want to use their entire suite.

I use their mail service, but prefer Mullvad and Filen for VPN and cloud storage. Don't like to rely on a single company.

>imagine wanting to hide email from glowies
how stupid can you be?
everyone knows that email are unsecure by nature, no one gives a fuck about email e2e encryption, if you do you're a fucking retard, use an real-time chat application designed for this, email are for registering on websites, that's it, and proton is fine for this.
I don't give a fuck if glowies from accross the pond know that I bought 64gb of ddr4 ram on amazon last week, not my fucking issue, I'll never go to NA in my life anways.

Believe it or not but privacy is a large spectrum and doesn't consist of two extremes. If you're some criminal maybe it's bad but for regular people it's more than enough and you know they're not selling your data to the lowest bidder like Google is. Most people don't want private companies to handle their data without consent but have no issue with law enforcement doing their job.
