When Intel goes under, the IP sharing agreement between Intel and AMD guarantees that the company that buys Intel’s assets does NOT get the rights to use x86 architecture, leaving AMD the sole surviving heir to x86.
This, of course, was supposed to go the other way; Intel never thought they’d be the ones leaving this plane of existence.

It already did. A 7800/9800X3D tier chip used to go for 300$ now it's 500$. You can expect the next generation to be 700$.

The only reason I don't hate AMD with the same passion as Intel is that there no news on AMD literally shoving cash into other peoples mouthes to avoid Intel.

And there a bigger jew to fry called Nvidia.

We've already seen that the x86 licensing is a complex nightmare entirely independent of the survival of any company structures
Vortex and Via both took a long way around with their licenses to get to their current position with several defunct companies in-between without any renewals or other business involving Intel at any point since the agreements were first signed like thirty years back

You can go and become a macfag and enjoy your ARM.
You could also buy some Chinese ARM laptops thats what companies like Huawei pivoted to when sanctions hit them.
https://www.huaweicentral.com/huawei-launches-qingyun-l420x-notebook-with-2-8k-screen-long-battery-life/
None of these are really compatible with anything windows or any of the programs you're using to running but if you just need to work in your browser or need to code they're perfectly usable.

I think a sign of things to come to be honest, what drives the x64/x86 architecture is massive legacy. There too much stuff that just works.

But let's be real for new Chinese consumers or for goverments this isn't really an issue. EU and China could easily move to Linux with open office and then modify them as much as they wanted and it would all work on ARM PCs and Laptops. Most office work is just that spreadsheet software and a browser. In 10~20 years you'll probably see most of the non US countries running something like this on their own software to avoid US spying.

>>105965282
You'd probably have China making chips and competing with AMD but in quite a few years until then doubt much would change.

That all changed when amd_64 dominated over Itainium.
If, say, broadcom bought what’s left of Intel, they wouldn’t have the rights to make amd_64 processors.

And, yeah, a lot of the older stuff shoukd be out in the open now.

some have. depends on what functionality is used. you might end up having to license from intel and amd to just make one chip. these fags could keep extending x86 chips with new patents. there's no incentive for anyone to make x86 chips with all latest features and amd/intel maintain their monopoly.

really, x86(64) has something arm will never have and that is backwards compatibility with all the x86 binaries from the last 30 years.

i like arm too but x86 is here to stay for another 50 years or until virtualization overhead is no longer a problem of x86 on arm

It’t true POWER/PowerPC lords over x64/amd64 in many ways, like multi-processor ability, cache, etc.
Risc-V is a new, toy architecture from a master’s thesis. There’s not much to it. It’s horrible to write for, and doesn’t come close to ARM anywhere except for cheaper licensing costs. Both are horrible to program.
x86/amd64, on the other hand is a joy to write for.

technology sticks around because its profitable to write for, not how fun it is. POWER people can inspect the microcodes, ARM people want something cheap and RISC-V is cheaper. x86/amd64 is neither hot or cold and it'll be spat out because its entire market segment is being craved out by ARM on all fronts mobile, desktop, server
