Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series (especially X230, T440p and T480, those are the best pads for bucks) if you want the Real Business Experience™
>Other business laptops are welcome in /tpg/ (Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook)

Why ThinkPad?
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap
>Excellent keyboards, tactile feel and quiet
>Great durability: magnesium roll cage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop
>Easy to repair (most models), upgrade & maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model, spare parts easy & cheap to obtain
>Excellent Linux & *BSD support
>Trackpoint (why the fuck wasn't this in the general before? that's the only reason to get a thinkpad in 2025 honestly)

I just got a E14 G6 from my job after using an X220/T420 for over a decade and oh boy I know I'm late to the party but what were they thinking getting rid of the 7-row keyboard? I guess I just have to get used to it but the muscle memory of using the page back/forward keys which are now pgup/pgdn is going to take some getting used to. I keep trying to use pgdn and pressing the Delete key instead. At least they've seperated the function keys since the T430 I basically haven't paid attention to ThinkPads at all after the T420.

I got a second hand ThinkPad T14s Gen 1 AMD version for $290, pretty happy with my purchase.
It was kinda disappointing when i realized that the 16GB RAM was soldered, but I'm glad i installed Fedora on it, runs pretty smooth.

Could get a much better deal depends on your location.
But yeah, frankly 16GB is good enough for a laptop even if you're running gnome with all of its extensions IMO.

I hardly use more than 7GB on my X13

And now after all this time they've also decided on the next gen of ThinkPads to swap the Ctrl and Fn key around. I guess I missed that change by 1 generation.

A GPU like the 2080 in the t15g line should be enough for modern games and video editing right? Perhaps some development too?

Yeah, i wish i could get it for less, I live in the third world, so having such price is almost impossible.
