the only decent

is to motivate you to go running more often
so a cheap fitband is the most you need

I have one that I got for free but I don't use it. A regular watch does everything I would use a watch for.

I have a garmin. It has gps and mp3 playback for my runs so I can leave my phone at home. Battery life is okay but I should have bought one with a bit more.

I want something with e sim and phoneless connection. The main reason why I use a watch is so I can look at my phone less. Thats why I got Samsung. No point in it if I need to keep the phone near me all the times.

I think thats the most stupid use case. For me prime motivation is to use my phone less. I go to a store, pay using apple pay, I get my important mail and teams notifications when I am out away from my lap and I can listen to music in gym without worrying about my phone being hit by the dumbbells or placed somwher so some black man can steal it and call my mom easily.

Holy shit I didn't know about that it changes everything! I can stomach proprietary firmware as long as companion app is FOSS.
I just bought Amazfit Active 2 to try and it works amazing! Not only core features works but also weather providers, playback control and notifications.

Yes, an Apple watch 8.
I like the data/trivia. Where I can review my steps, activity and such. See the routes I ran/hiked/cycled. See my long term resting hr, etc.

What I don't like about it, is that it's ugly and stuff like calories is a rough estimate at best. I also don't like that the "best" value of the data comes from wearing it day and night. I also don't like that it kind of forces you to behave in a certain way. Now stand, now run up the stairs. Now walk fast and don't stop because it otherwise wont register as an "activity moment"

It's entirely my perfectionism interferring with the thing. And in the end the benefits are kind of bloat. Funny trivia at best. So I now try to wear it only on days I'm actually using it for workout tracking. Otherwise Ill wear my regular analogue watch. I probably won't get another one after this one breaks, but who knows. I do like it a bit better how fitbit/garmin approaches the data. Apple gamifies a bit too much for my taste.

Eh, it's okay. Lasts about 1,5 days, with always on display. Charges while I do my morning routine or chill before bed. It's actually only annoying when I go on camping trips.

Had a pixel watch for a bit. That one lasted longer for sure. 2 days for sure.

Garmin is the only brand I've considered but I still think it's better to have separate watch and gps devices.
Something about another company knowing where I am and all my bio data 24/7 doesn't sit right, even if their products seem really good.
Which watch do you have?

I have a Galaxy watch 7
I don't do sports so most of it is wasted on me
Sleep tracker pisses me off cause I wake up in a good mood thinking that was some nice sleep and the stupid watch says it was actually objectively bad ????
It's nice to control music without pulling out my phone I guess
I paid with it once instead of card/phone and felt like a moron
It also looks kinda stupid and lame
Came with my phone for free or I never would've bought one
Oh and the battery life is atrocious

Not OP but I used to have a Garmin, my first and only smartwatch, sold it after about a year. The exact model was Garmin Venu 2s.
It's a fun toy in the beginning, shows so many interesting stats about you - heart rate, calories burned, steps taken, distance walked, floors climbed, all kinds of sleep metrics. What I didn't like was that it needed to be charged about once a week which was annoying, I have too many things that need to be charged. Also, I have eight other watches and I stopped wearing them because of the smartwatch "I wanna wear my Casio ProTrek on the hike this weekend but I also wanna know how many steps I walked and how many calories I burned. Guess I'm taking the Garmin" and I hated that a product was so invasive in my decision making.

Every time I have a panic attack I put it on to quell my health anxiety and immediately stop having a panic attack.
Has probably saved me at least 5 unnecessary trips to the hospital in the last year or so.

i have a galaxy s6. i like the fitness tracker, it minds my sets and reps, and also serves as media control for my music
