why dont PCs come with batteries in case of a power outage? outages dont last very long and it sucks to have your system go down

batteries degrade faster than any other component in a desktop. People who purchase a desktop over a laptop want stability and are more likely to get a UPS instead of a lesser solution

UPSs are pretty cheap and only need replacement batteries every so often. Have my home server setup on one and it dealt with a half hour outage just fine.

PSUs are already enough of a problem, the fewer explodey components the better. If you want backup power you use the real thing and plug the PC into it.
