The idea of a phone that can extend its screen size on command is appealing but I'd bet these aren't so great in practice. I don't use my phone enough to warrant purchasing such a thing though.

The reason it's trash is because there is currently no material, durable enough for practicall use as a foldable screen.

In short, folsdable phones are a scam.
The screen becomes trash after first few months of use since it's soft as fuck to the point where you can (will) scratch the screen using your fingernails.

I'm 3 years in on my foldable screen. Sure the middle's seen better days but it's perfectly usable. I accepted from day one that the screen was essentially a wear item like a car's tires or brake pads.
