Microsoft Design Language 1/Metro is the only good flat design, Windows 8 is fine but its even better on Windows Phone/Zune/etc.

Early material design was so good. It's been iterations on that since, usually for worse, sometimes for better. I loved the construction paper textures that were around in 2013, 2014ish.
