What's the /g/ recommended media player? Something that
>Isn't slow (especially with browsers and stuff)
>Is piracy friendly (not locked down can do side loading)
>Likely works with an airmouse and/or bt remote

I got the HOMATICS Box R 4K Plus from Aliexpress and it works better than my Nvidia Shield that I sold for more than the new box cost.

All Android boxes are dog slow because 99% of them use the same Amlogic crap. I think even the nvidya shield still performs better than anything released today.

just get a cheap NUC and install whatever OS you want.

Amlogic isn't the problem. It's shitty poorly optimized roms. Amlogic boxes tend to outperform the Allwinner and Rockchip ones. They also have the best community support with Armbian, CoreELEC, and EmuELEC. If you buy any cheap chink Android box and use the stock rom the main pain point is google play services. If you're willing to manage apks yourself go through with adb, they usually give you root, and just start fucking purging everything. But disabling, perhaps not uninstalling, google play services is essential.

I'll give some more advice since I thought about it more. In addition to the Linux stuff for Amlogic boxes there are community developed roms that are much better than stock. They also tend to give you an interface that makes sense on a TV, rather than the frankenstein Android phone roms chink boxes usually have. But there's a serious risk in flashing Android images. There's a good chance you could brick the box if you do something wrong. It's much safer to play with the Linux stuff because you can boot it from a SD card or USB drive, it can effectively be dual boot. This means you can do the things you want in that OS then switch back to Android. These boxes can be had for less than $15 on Aliexpress though so if you like tinkering you can get a few and start dicking around with them.

NVIDIA Shield, specifically the non-pajeetware version, which is sold out everywhere and nearly impossible to find.

The nvidia shield is old news, the real high end pirates are running CoreELEC Ugoos AM6b+ or Minix U22X-J [Max] for it's proper Dolby Vision support.

An N97 or N100 mini-pc is best. It's really nice to have the option to run a full browser, espcially trannyfox with ublock and videodownloadhelper. Then you can watch your local collection and stuff online with no ads, or grab stuff from online for later.

Full Dolby Vision support. Perfect for playing either UHD remuxes or BDMV folders/isos with menus. Both HDB and PTP have active threads about these devices because of this. There really isn't anything else on the market that fills this niche for a high end piracy device. You can dual boot Android and CoreELEC, Android to do whatever normal shit you would do with one of these boxes and CoreELEC to take advantage of the dovi capabilities through Kodi.
