Is a 3090 still a good card? 4k TV/monitor but I'm OK with bumping res down in games.
It's $600
Sorry for a new thread over such a trivial question

Yes but things are stating to leverage fp8 so Ada or newer is an advantage. It's still a good GPU though.

For $600, no. Its nearly 5 years old, end of warranty and components on the board may fail at any moment.

It's about the same for gaming as a 9070xt.

The only thing you have to worried about is the fan, the only mechanical component, and that's a cheap fix. The actual chips on the board breaking isn't really a thing that happens unless there's something seriously wrong with the manufacturing which would've been known by now. Its not like HDDs where a mechanical component breaking means its effectively a brick.

I think it's a great buy with the current market, you can't beat dlss4 and the vram will keep you solid for I would say the lifespan of the 9700xt. I would buy it over anything in it's price range in the current market.

5070 is faster with framegen/multiframegen + it's not a fucking housefire like the 3090 is. You need a better power supply then you would think
Vram on the 5070 sucks but neither of these cards are really good at 4k in 2025.
I would either step back to a 3080 or get a 5070. Ada is pretty good too but realistically with current pricing it makes 0 sense.

unless you need the extra vram it makes more sense to get a 5070 at this point. Pretty sure the card is just straight up faster in gaming with lower power draw..

That's fucking retarded I own a 5090 and would never use that garbage. He has DLSS 4 that's the biggest buff he needs and he can do more with his card than that piece of shit you recommended

I game on a custom loop water cooled 3090 at 4k 80fps or 1080p 144hz on my dual mode oled. It works fine for what I play witch is currently Witchfire, Star Citizen, and Poe2. Stuttering is usually thermal throttle on all cards and water cooling fixes that.

legit why? you only have a 144hz monitor or something? There were issues when framegen first came out but the couple games where I use it I rarely see visual artifacts and the motion clarity of 240hz is so nice.

I played fighting games for 15+ years I am very sensitive to input delay. I can understand some games but I just don't like using it because it doesn't cap to 244fps whenever I use which makes it a bit difficult to deal with in some games. I just want to enforce a fps cap when using framegen.

Yes. I have an RX6900 which is basically the radeon equivalent and it runs everything more than fine. Also 24Gb vram allows for some pretty good local ai

Anon he replied to monster hunter wilds is a prime candidate for framegen. game runs like shit but you will still have better input latency vs console.
Many games I play I don't need it and I daily drive tumbleweed

But its also a shit game so who cares?
There hasn't been a single game that requires framegen (yet) that is worth playing, so its a whatever topic.

ignore this retard, people are still selling this card for over a 1000 dollars, 600 is a really good value, solid card, just make sure you replace the pads and paste, assuming the previous owner hasn't done so

I only played that shit heap for my friends and I fully agree with you. But some games could use the extra push I don't know which ones but it's small which is why DLSS4 is better as a booster in every regard

this is just the average price of 4090's on ebay.
it's actually come down a little very recently, but 5090's have been in stock in the uk at or near msrp for months now

i have a feeling clueless people are watching youtube reviews of 50 series that weren't glowing and think they're still getting a deal here.

Dollar for dollar, a 3090 is a better deal then a 4090 or 5090, even being a 5 year old card.
Its retarded, but it is what it is

Wildly depends on what you're playing. You're correct with most anything UE5, but I play RDR2, Hell Divers 2, Path of Exile, and quite a few others at native 4k without issue on a 3090.
