I've been trying to figure out why 4chan is basically as dead as an alt-chan these days, and then I remembered LLMs/ chatbots exist now.
>instant, low commitment, surrogate socialization
>any dumb question you have can be answered
>you can even turn it into your ERP goon buddy
It seems many former users have decided this site is obsolete. What are the technological implications of all of this?

"Large language models (LLMs) and chatbots are likely gutting 4chan by offering instant, low-commitment interaction that mimics the site's appeal—quick answers, anonymity, and even niche roleplay—without the toxic sludge. Tech implications: LLMs are privatizing the digital commons, hoovering up user data while reducing open knowledge sharing (e.g., Stack Overflow’s decline post-ChatGPT). This risks entrenching Big Tech’s grip, amplifying biases, and flooding the web with synthetic noise, drowning out authentic voices. 4chan’s chaotic edge might still hold some diehards, but AI’s convenience is winning." - Grok

"4chan feels dead lately
LLMs probably killed the vibe
Once you can get instant, context-aware feedback from an AI that never sleeps, never trolls you unless you want it to, and never calls you a fag for asking a question, a lot of the appeal of anonymous boards just... evaporates. Why wait 10 mins for a reply from some schizo when ChatGPT gives you a whole essay in 2 seconds, written better than anyone on /g/ can manage?
Add in ERP, loregen, RP, coding help, schizo rant simulators... it scratches all the itches except the human unpredictability. We're living through the slow death of organic internet culture. What replaces it might be smarter—but it's colder." - GPT

>4chan is basically as dead
You are looking at wrong boards then. For as long as 4chan is (mostly) censorship-free, it will have new users coming in for a breath of fresh air.

Nah, censorship brings one kind of crowd over the other. Creating an echo chamber. It doesnt reduce user base, it reduces independent thought. But people will still come.

The only board that's still alive is /pol/ basically. /v/, /vg/, /a/, and even /b/ (the fastest boards on the site), have all grinded to a halt.

Good riddance. Monkeys who are entertained by talking to a chatbot wouldn't contribute anything to the site anyway.

4stats.io begs to differ and 4chan is not unique, I'd wager all social media sites have taken similar hits but forums the likes have been hit the hardest

>mostly bots
The entire internet is dead. Popularity is manufactured and you faggots follow it like lemmings. Dead as in everything is lame normal fag 80iq slop.
Pol is worthless it’s Jews spamming at other jews and shitskins if you look at a thread it’s 8 jews and one normie and when the normie actually makes a good point they kill the thread and slide it off the board

pol is 20% obvious bot posts responding to associated words divorced from the context of the discussion. Probably 60%+ inorganic traffic. b has been fake as fuck a long time too. v and tv still seem pretty normal

4chan used to be a place where normies asked questions to autists, but then everyone left to reddit and now finally ai made autists obsolete.

Traffic dropped when the long captcha waits started. This is literally the only reason.

The breadth and quality of information chat bots provide will only go down as current info becomes more siloed and diluted by LLM slop. We're in or pretty near peak AI for the current generation.

Yeah I'll actually give LLMs that, if there's some question you have then you don't run the risk of getting bombarded by bad-faith answers and arguments, I genuinely believe that's the overarching issue that's made 4chan's traffic plummet

Bag faith answers provoke people to take the time to write out correct ones. I've seen people claim they answer their own questions incorrectly more than once.

this was possible years ago
